“If y’all ain’t got me no gifts then I’ll be there to drop my nephews and niece off their stuff and leave.” I smirked.
“You’ll be there. My wife invitations will be fulfilled.” He threatened.
There was nothing playful in Bleu’s tone although I was just playing with his always so serious ass.
“I got a plus one coming as well so don’t embarrass a nigga.” I chuckled.
“Embarrass you, like you did me the first time you met Tru?” His response was laced with irritation.
“All I did was rap! If she ain’t like my flow, then I wouldn’t have welcomed her into the family.”
“Dreu please!” Truly yelled in the background.
“Aye I got to go. I’m shooting my music video to my number one song BGL.” I boasted proudly.
“Congratulations on that number one lil bro. I’m really proud of you, I’ll let you go…” He paused for a couple of seconds.
“I’m good bro, I know that’s the other reason why you called to check on me.”
My chest tightened thinking about my momma. Bleu only did the mushy shit with Truly. Deep down though, I knew his number one reason for calling me. I hadn’t answered his text messages from yesterday because I was sad as fuck thinking about our parents. I was grateful that Jatavia was simply just there for a nigga.
Her presence comforted me the most. She didn’t press me with questions; she just let me express myself then wiped my tears away with her soft ass hands.
“Alright I don’t want you to feel alone. You got a whole family over here. Although mother works my nerves, I hate to see herlike that too. Which is why I wanted her to talk to you so you could hear it from her or father first.” He sighed.
“Have you talked to him?” My jaws clenched.
“Thanksgiving was the last I talked to him. I knew some shit was off then.” Bleu grated.
I stepped away from everybody and walked over to the corner of the room. I took a seat in a folding chair then pulled my blunt from behind my ear. Rina’s sigh echoed throughout the warehouse. She loudly told everybody to take a ten-minute break like she was the director.
“I just don’t understand that shit, Bleu… I mean, I ain’t got no choice but to accept it but its just fucked up in a cold way. It feels like our childhood was a lie. Like they painted a picture so perfect for us then waited until we got?—”
“Look,” Bleu cut me off. “I get it and felt it. It’s all weird to me too.” He sighed.
“The way pops used to look at momma was like he really loved her.” I added.
“He did, but in his own way, I guess. I was deep in love with Truly when before our boys. Then when I watched her give birth to them it intensified to something I can’t even explain. A woman gives life…I knew this shit already but being a witness to it…watching her birth our boys…” Bleu took in a deep breath.
I couldn’t wait to experience fatherhood myself.
“For a man to witness something so beautiful and not love the woman who gifted him is some heartless shit. Our father ain’t heartless, Dreu. He loves mother for sure. It just wasn’t enough to keep their union tight sad to say.”
“I get where you coming from.” I said in a croaky voice, slowly nodding my head.
“He can’t expect us to welcome his bullshit with open arms right away.” I added.
“I don’t expect him to, and just remember his bullshit is either our baby brother or baby sister. Honestly, I think that’s one of the reasons why mother decided to leave the states.”
“Why?” I frowned.
“Because Dreu… it’ll all be too much for her to see. Us loving a baby that didn’t come from her. She also knows who side you are on and don’t want to drive a wedge between you and him. Each party gets hurt in this. Mother, and then there’s our father probably feeling like he has lost our respect. At the end of the day… It pains me but not enough to turn bitter towards either one of them. They both have had different love affairs. Some lasted too long for my liking but it never seemed to bother neither one of them.”
“Yea on some real shit,” I took another hit of my blunt then ashed it on the floor. “It’s sort of like a woman asking a man to have a threesome then getting mad once she see the nigga dicking the other woman down.” I chuckled dryly.
“Yeah, that right there. It’s exactly what it’s like. Only difference is, mother wasn’t expecting for him to want a divorce and add an outside baby to the equation. She feel like she loves him more than he does her. Don’t get it twisted though… Mother has had her fun with a countless amount of men. They both had an understanding that somehow became misunderstood.” Bleu said in a finalized tone.
“They did…it’s just weird to me right now man. Like I said I accept it, it just feels off to me right now. You know change is tough for me, but as long as I got you here physically and my pancakes…I’ll be straight.” I smirked.
