I leaned over to the side to dig in my pocket and pull out my phone. Soon as I unlocked my phone, I had a text message from Dreu. The smell of weed traveled up my nose as I opened the message. I barked out a laugh when my eyes landed on a picture of his dry ass feet. Underneath the picture he sent a text saying:

Dreu: These dry ass feet miss you, I ain’t moisturizing them until you come see about a nigga.

“Tavia,” Tammy gasped loudly then choked on weed smoke.

She cleared her throat and looked at me like I had two heads. I took the time to quickly respond to Dreu.

Me: When you want me to come see you…do you miss me?

I bit into my bottom lip and curled my toes in my shoes out of excitement. If I was light skinned, I’d be red as hell right now in the face. Three dots appeared on my phone, and I blushed waiting for his reply.

“Girl I ain’t never seen you act this way.”

Tammy’s voice was like background noise as I waited for Dreu’s reply.

Dreu: Hell yeah, I fucking miss you. I want to see you now, but I can wait and send you a plane ticket.

My cheeks started to warm up and hurt from smiling so hard.

Me: Prove it to me…that you want to see me now.

I bounced my right leg out of nervousness as I shared my location indefinitely with him. It was a bold move, but right about now I didn’t give a damn.

“Show me a damn picture, and what did you just tell him.” Tammy’s voice cut through my anticipation to see what Dreu was going to do.

I glanced back at our text thread and saw that there were no bubbles. My mind automatically thought the worse shit like him probably being laid up with a groupie.

“I told his ass to prove to me he missed me.” I said, handing the phone to Tammy.

It was a nice picture of Dreu and I the day he took me out to get pampered.

“Bitch, hold the fuck up!” She quickly passed me the blunt and held my phone out to me.

“This—” She slapped my thigh hard as hell, “Is the nigga?”

I nodded, smiling brightly. She recognized Dreu as Big D.

She screamed.

“Bitch this the nigga that said I had musty titties!!! That’s Big D ol’ cocky ass!”

I lost it. Choking on the weed and laughing was a terrible damn mix. I tried to take a sip of wine to ease the burn of weed smoke trapped in my throat, but Tammy’s laugh was too contagious. She laughed disrespectfully making wine come out of my nose. Tammy doubled over and clutched her stomach. She howled so loud I was sure the neighbors heard her ass.

“NOT HIM BITCH!” She cried. “OF ALL MEN—HIM!”

“Tammy, he didn’t know you was my cousin!” I wheezed. “Dreu is sort of rude but an honest man.” I tried my hardest to defend him.

Tammy dramatically stood up and started to pace.

“I cannot believe my cousin is dating the same nigga who emotionally traumatized me and my big ass titties.”

I laughed harder; tears streamed down my face.

“Look how life works.” She shook her head in disbelief.

“You done made the blunt go out.” I chuckled.

Tammy leaned down, poured her up another glass of wine and passed me the lighter before sitting back down.
