I stroked a hand over her hair. "If Rhiannon hadn't found you, I probably never would have known you existed. Nor would you have known I existed. Our paths were destined to cross because of her. I hate the pain that you've been through, but I'm not sorry that you're here now."
She didn't move, but her next breath was shaky. It was a huge temptation to reach through our new bond and see what she was thinking and feeling, but I squashed the urge like a bug. I would not do that to her.
Merry lifted her head and her deep brown eyes were still damp from her tears as she looked at me.
Then, she did the last thing I expected.
She kissed me.
