“It’s about Connery,” he said softly. “We still haven’t found somewhere for him to go,” he began before blowing out a breath. “I know you said he could stay off the registration rolls while we sorted it out, but things got complicated.”
“Complicated, how?” I pressed, leaning forward. Granted, the young Hunter wasn’t one of my students or residents, but I was still fond of him. “Is his family hassling him?”
Jeremy shook his head quickly. “No, as far as we know they’ve never even looked for him.” He drew in a deep breath and shrugged. “He hasn’t been feeling well,” Jeremy said quickly. “The nurse finally ran out of options and out of desperation she gave him a pee test.”
“Okay. Did he pop for drugs?” Not ideal, obviously, but it wouldn’t be the first time and we did have a treatment plan in place.
Kade could barely contain himself by now and I gave him an annoyed look. “Would you just spit it out?”
“He’s pregnant,” Jeremy said firmly.
I’ll take things I absolutely did not see coming for a thousand, Alec.
“Seriously?” I shook my head. “But..how?” I pointed at Kade before he opened his mouth. “Not another word out of you.”
Kade snorted but kept his mouth shut. Jeremy fluttered his hands and shrugged. “Well, he must be an Omega, right? But he definitely didn’t know, and he doesn’t have any of the norm…I mean, traditionalindicators.”
“How’s he taking it?” I asked, bracing myself. Given his history, this was a definite wild card.
Jeremy sighed. “I think he’s in denial. He agreed to let me tell you, but he won’t tell me who he thinks the sire is.”
“Do you want me to talk to him?” I offered, not really sure that would help much.
“Not right now,” Jeremy said with a shake of his head. “I just wanted to make sure that you were aware and let you know that I will be encouraging him to complete the paperwork for former enrollment.”
That was the logical next step, so I nodded. “Perfect. What is the other issue that you wanted to discuss?”
“Do you remember last September when we filled in the grant applications to expand our creative arts programs?”
“Of course,” I confirmed. “We heard back?”
“We did,” Jeremy nodded with a huge smile, handing me an unsealed envelope, the ink slightly smudged from where he’d been worrying it with his fingers.
Sliding the paper free, I unfolded it and scanned the typed lines.
We’re happy to award Omega Destiny, International with a grant equal to the application request covering an initial four-year Creative Arts expansion program.
“They covered the full cost for four years?” I asked in amazement.
“Everything but room and board for the instructor or instructors,” Jeremy assured me, nodding excitedly. “We have to cover that, and we have to have the program ready to go for Autumn enrollment, but I’m sure we can make that work!”
“Absolutely,” I agreed. “That’s great work, Jeremy. You should be very proud!”
“I am.” Jeremy was absolutely beaming as he stood up. “Now all we need to do is find a creative arts instructor willing to live in this crazy house,” he joked.
I laughed because, well, reasons. “You know where to send the information?”
“I do,” he assured me, tugging Kade out of his chair and toward the door. “I already have the requisition form downloaded and it’ll be in your email for approval by the end of the day.”
“Perfect.” I smiled as I watched them leave, grateful that life had worked out for them the way it had and wondered to myself if Easter weekend was too soon for me to invite myself out to visit Jules.
I mean, Sunday would be ten days without seeing each other and, frankly, I really thought it was ten days too long to go without him.
Julian
“Nope, absolutely not. I amnotgetting sucked into another one of your schemes,” I said firmly, resolutely ignoring the too perfect pout on my roommates perfectly lined lips.
“But Juuulllles,” Julie whined my name, leveling her best puppy dog eyes at me. “It’s Spring Break and all we have to pay for is our drinks! Everything else is covered, even our meals!”
