Chapter Three

Colt

While Sky slept, I racked my brain for what I knew about non-shifter physiology. My initial first aid had been straight from the humanoid first aid field guide, a combination of deeply ingrained training and muscle memory from the years that Clint and I had served in the Böxenwolf Brigade. Now that the immediate threat to life had passed, I was more than a little out of my depth.

My first thought was to put a call into Doc, but I quickly discarded it. Even if I was able to convince him to consult over the phone, he specialized in shifter medicine. Ditto for Doctor Morgan, who had gone one step further and specialized indragonshifter medicine. Then it hit me who I needed.

Alpha Alrick Braun, former commander of the Böxenwolf Brigade and newly-minted member of the Blood Valley pack.

Or, rather, I needed Alrick's Omega, Sebastian, who had completed several months ofhuman-focused emergency medical training. But it wasn't like Alrick was going to let Seb out of his sight, so...back to step one.

I needed Alrick.

20?I tapped out the text, crossing my fingers that they were within cell range. While Alrick and Seb worked on behalf of the Blood Valley pack, they were handling private clients instead of council business and it frequently took them a fair distance away. If I was lucky, they might be in my area.

Portsmouth, NH.Why?The response was almost immediate.

I didn't even try to hold in a sigh of relief at finding out that they were literally less than an hour away.

In Salem, MA. Need a medic 4 human ASAP.

Hospital? The slight delay in the response suggested that Alrick might have passed the info on to Seb.

No. On DL.

Address?

Grinning, I tapped out the address and sank down on the upholstered chair with another sigh.

Supplies?

Stock up,I suggested, sending the pictures I'd taken of the worst of Sky's injuries along with one of my seriously depleted field kit.

The thumbs up that flashed on the screen assured me that soon the injured Omega would be in good hands.

Sky was still sleeping when my phone buzzed again just under ninety minutes later.

Outside.

Rising, I flipped the deadbolt on the door and pulled it open before returning to my chair to wait. As I expected, Alrick entered first, his weapon flat against his leg, and proceeded to clear the room. To my amusement, Seb stood on the other side of the threshold, a pair of saddlebags over his shoulder and his toe tapping in obvious annoyance.

"Finally!" he huffed when his husband motioned him in. "Like Colt was going to attack us? Really?"

"Procedure," Alrick and I muttered at the same time as we clasped hands.

"You know that, babe," Alrick said patiently.

Sebastian just rolled his eyes and stepped into the bathroom to wash his hands.

When he came back, he gestured to the sleeping Omega. "This is my patient?"

"Sky," I nodded. "I'm not entirely sure what all was done to him, but I'm positive the bastards didn't expect him to survive it."

Seb laid one small hand gently on Sky's forehead. "He's burning up."

Alrick unbuckled the saddle bag that Seb had laid on the floor and gently dumped the contents out onto the table. "What do you need?"

"Hold on," Seb muttered, before kneeling down beside the bed. "Sky? Can you hear me?"
