Chapter Sixteen
Sky
After Colt left, I dozed for a few hours, wrapped in the deliciously overwhelming Alpha scented bed. When the late afternoon sun began to peek in through the curtains, I stretched and sat up in the bed. It was then that I saw Colt slumped in the chair by the window, watching me from beneath lowered lashes.
"Everything okay?"
"Not really," he responded, the tightness in his voice setting me on edge.
I pulled the sheet tightly around me. "I'm sorry, Alpha."
Colt's brows arched. "You didn't do anything, Sky. What could you possibly have done?"
I shrugged and dropped my eyes, twisting the sheet in my fingers.
"Hey." Colt hefted his large frame out of the chair and lowered onto the bed beside me, pulling me close. "I promise, Sky, it's not you." He sighed. "I should have told you that I have a mate, a female Omega."
Oh.
"That's okay," I assured him, pulling away and standing up still wrapped in the sheet. "You didn't make me any promise. I'll just get my clothes.."
Colt caught my wrist and tugged, sending me tumbling into his lap. "Didn't I?" To my surprise, he sounded almost amused. "I'm not trying to get rid of you, Sky."
"Ah, yes, well," I stumbled over my words, "it's not that there's anything wrong with polygamy, but it's really not my thing…"
"What? No!" All traces of humor were gone when Colt snapped his reply. I tried to shrink away from him and he drew in a long breath. "Baby, you don't need to be scared of me. I promise that I'll never hurt you." His strong hand rubbed a circle over my back. "I wasn't trying to get rid of you and I also wasn't suggesting a three-way relationship." Colt shook his head. "Why don't I start from the beginning?"
I nodded and let him settle me more comfortably against him.
I stayed quiet as he took me back to how his Omega had been found injured and nursed back to health. How she had agreed to mate with him after he'd knocked her up during her heat cycle, but declined his offer to claim her and then vanished several months earlier with their young daughter.
When he finished talking, he tightened his arms around me and waited for me to speak.
"Do you love her?"
Colt coughed nervously. "Ah, well, I'm fond of her, of course."
I couldn't help but laugh. "Not exactly a ringing endorsement," I pointed out sassily. "I'mfondof Pad Thai but I wouldn't mate with it."
Colt laughed. "I think I felt sorry for her more than anything else," he said softly. "She had no family or pack, really." I felt his shoulder shrug. "And I do love our daughter."
"So now she's back?"
"Temporarily," Colt assured me, "but not as my partner. I set her up in our daughter's room for now. I just didn't want you to be blindsided when you got up and found her here."
"That's very considerate of you." I snuggled more fully against him, feeling him harden under me. "Thank you."
Colt groaned as I shifted over him and pressed down.
"Mm," I leaned my head back so I could kiss his neck. "It feels like you remember what you were thinking about when you had to leave."
"Definitely," he said, rising with me in his arms and tossing me onto the bed before he started disrobing. In no time he was standing before me, gloriously naked. "I, ah, did run into town after I met with Clint," he said, a faint flush coloring his cheeks as he pulled a small bottle from a bag I hadn't noticed on the floor beside his chair. He tossed it on the bed beside me and grinned at my curious look. "Lube."
"Ooh," I breathed out, a shudder running through me at the thought of finally having him inside me. "Yes, please, Alpha."
Colt's grin took on a decidedly wolfish look as he climbed over me, his muscular thighs straddling my hips again. This time, though, he clearly had something other than jerking off over me in mind.
Stretching over me, Colt's lips claimed mine, gentle but insistent before moving down to nibble on my neck. Rising back onto his knees, he patted my hip gently. " over, Sky."
