“Breaker, fetch Griller and Saddle,” Whack orders, and I quickly leave the office to find them. I don’t know what’s happening at the moment, so I can’t give them a heads-up. We three enter the office and take a stance on one side. Remaining quiet and listening to what is going on.
“You left your son because you had a mission to find sixteen girls who had been placed in a container and shipped out? Is that what you are telling me?” Whack asks in a shocked tone.
“Exactly. One of the girls is the daughter of a high-up member of the mafia. I’m not telling you who, what or where. That is private and confidential information, and it stays that way. But I followed that container until its end. Then I had to find each of those girls and get them away from their situation, and back home where they could be safe, or into witness protection.”Ghost folds his arms across his chest and looks grim. “I saw more things than I could ever imagine, and I’ll never be able to get rid of the visions imprinted on my mind.”
“Did you get all sixteen?” Cannon asks.
Shaking his head negatively. “No, I lost two. Both were dead by the time I got to them. But they were better dead than living where they were. I’m not telling you about what they suffered. It is best left with them in the afterlife. I got their bodies home, and I paid for one of them to be buried as her family couldn’t care less. That family is no longer breathing.” Ghost is showing why he was man enough to do this.
“That is why you left Thorn to grow up on his own?” Griller asks. “But you knew that she fucked off with someone else?”
“I left provisions for Thorn. I left thousands with a friend to take him and look after him until I got back. He knew where I was going and why. Are you telling me the fucker didn’t do what I paid him to do?” Ghost rages.
“That’s exactly what we are telling you. Thorn dragged himself to the farm and got a job working the land. He has lived in the bunkhouse ever since . He is here with us, a working prospect, and he’s setting up a barber shop for the club with his friend Andy,” Whack fills him in.
Ghost’s face turns from pale where he’d lost all color as he realized what happened to Thorn, then to red, and scarlet when it is confirmed his friend took the money but didn’t do what he was paid to do. “I’m gonna kill the fucker.” Now, Ghost says that in such a controlled manner I can see why he got his name. I’ve heard the stories about his getting in and out without being seen. I would feel sorry for this friend if it weren’t for the fact that hefucked Ghost over and allowed a young kid to work his ass off with nobody in his corner.
Ghost looks at Whack, and we all laugh when he asks. “Is my son into men?”
“Not likely,” I quickly add. “He was seeing a young woman, same as Andy, and both of those women were taken to the Cobras MC clubhouse where they became whores for the club.”
“Nothing wrong by the way with a man liking a man, but I would have been shocked I’ve got to admit.” Ghost grins to himself and whatever thought he has.
“Now that is out of the way what is it I can do for you?” Whack asks.
Ghost gives Whack a serious look. “I want to join the MC. I’ve been out on my own too long. I was a nomad when appointed to this mission, and two years ago the support from the club stopped. It was voted that I was taking too long to get it done, and they cut me off. I told them to go fuck themselves, made sure the fuckers that voted against me had hardship, and threw my cut into their compound covered it in acid and walked away. Oh, I forgot to say the Road Captain's daughter was one I rescued and never got a thanks for it. That woman walked away from her father and I helped her disappear with a new identity. It’s surprising what you find out about a rotten MC once you step far enough away to take a good look at them.”
“It will have to be put to a vote. In the meantime, get this shit sorted with Thorn because I can’t take you into the brotherhood if you have a conflict going with Thorn. Make him sit down and listen to your story. He’s a good one, and he’s strong. He’ll be okay with it once he knows why. He may even help you fuck up this asshole who didn’t do what he was paid to do, which makeshim a thief, basically.” Whack dismisses us all, and we walk out of the office.
“How the fuck am I going to get him to speak to me?” Ghost mumbles.
I slap his shoulder and state confidently. “Ghost, if you want any shit fixing you need to speak with Molly, Bri and Marcia. They can get anything done if you ask them.”
Everyone who hears my comment laughs and agrees. “We’ve all seen them get shit done, as well as get into shit they shouldn’t.”
CHAPTER 31
*~* Molly *~*
Sitting in Jamie’s office, I’m taking notes on things she wants me to do, follow up on, or organize for the future. “I’m sorry to drop all this on you, Molly, but I’m going away for two weeks. I need a vacation. Time away from this and everything else.”
By that I know she means Fury, and I know it seems to have gone to shit. I can’t understand why he wouldn’t take Jamie seriously. They are good together, and she does not care that he is in an MC; in fact, she does more than needed for them. That may stop being such an urgency if all this goes tits up.
“Okay, Jamie, do you want me to speak with Simon about covering your patient appointments?”
Jamie rubs her face with the palm of her hands, and I can see she has tears in her eyes but is trying to hide them. “Yes, if you cando that. I’ll cover today, but I’m going first thing in the morning, so think of this as my last day for two weeks.”
Nodding, as I give her the understanding she needs right now. “If you need anything Jamie, and I mean anything just call me, and I will do whatever I can. As for that asshole, just forget him the best you can, and I know when feelings are involved it’s not easy. We have to do what we can to protect our hearts, and it’s his loss because you are one heck of a catch.”
Jamie wipes a tear that escapes, and she does it angrily. “I’m going to have a break, sort out my feelings and then come back to get back into my life without him in it.”
“Okay, leave things with me, Jamie, but say goodbye before you leave tonight.”
“I will, Molly. Thank you for understanding and taking all this extra work on your already busy desk.” Jamie gives me a weak smile when I walk over and squeeze her shoulder to give her a small touch of comfort.
Later that day, I have Simon organized to cover Jamie’s patients, and I give extra chores to Marie who is a new administrator, but only works a few hours per week. Everyone else has been informed that Jamie will be away for two weeks, and to contact me with any problems. Margaret, the medical assistant, is on alert and knows she may be called in at short notice, and Tom has given me his word he will not quit in the time Jamie is away. It was a running joke between us that he was going to quit and leave me in a mess. But he is a jokester when given the chance, and it’s one of the things I really like about him.
Walking into the clubhouse, I rub my hands together and turn to look at Breaker. “Next time slow down; my knees were knocking. You know it’s all new to me being on the back of a bike.”
