Thorn’s face sours. “She didn’t take long to fuck off with someone else. I was seventeen, and she just didn’t come home one night. Only weeks before she went off and I was left on my own. The place we lived in was rented, and I couldn’t afford it, so I got a job on the farm and lived in the bunkhouse. Now I’m here. No idea where or what happened to my father. But that’s a few years ago now.”
“All I remember from what I heard is that he was on a mission for his president, and things went silent. He was due back and never arrived. His club looked for him, but he was never found. Eventually, they presumed he was dead. Me, I’m not so sure!”
“Well, it doesn’t matter now. Even if he came back, there is nothing here for him. Ghost by name and Ghost by nature,” Thorn states, and it’s obvious that he is hurt by it, but is throwing it away as done.
“You could speak with his president, see what he knows,” I suggest.
“No, I’m not interested. I am okay with getting on with my life.”
I say no more on the matter, but I have a gut feeling there is more to this than anyone knows. I also think his club knows more but is keeping it close to their chests. Ghost was loose with the club, and he helped a lot of neighboring clubs with his skill of getting in and out unseen. He’d helped take down three syndicates from what I heard, and they were bad ones. Only time will tell what happened, and things come to light eventually.
Cannon walks into the rec room, looks around and, when he sees me waves his arm for me to follow him. Once in the Pres’s office I look at Griller, Cannon, and Saddle before giving Pres all my attention.
“Tonight, you are going to catch that bitch, and I mean for real this time. I want her and that fucking Angel grabbed and brought to the shed. I’m done messing around; we have a solid lead from Molly, Bri and Marcia. If we don’t catch these bitches, then the women will. So, let’s make sure we don’t make mistakes and grab them. I don’t want the three women going all Rambo on us. We know what happens when women take off and do stupid things.” Whack leans back in his seat, giving us all a serious look.
“Yeah, they get the job done,” Griller smirks.
“What did they find out?” I ask.
Whack fills us in on the women meeting with the street kid and giving her a reward for getting the information to them. They didn’t surprise me when Whack said they’d told the young girl if she needed anything to get in touch. That is how they roll.
Later that night, the four of us are hunkered down, waiting for the arrival of the black van. I’m hoping this is not another waste of our time because I’d much rather be in bed with Molly, doing the dirty.
It is so dark around the back here you can hardly see a hand in front of your face. None of us has spoken a word in nearly two hours. I’m just about to speak when we hear a vehicle pulling into the lot.
The lights from the van flick past us as they pull it close to the building’s wall. Making sure that it’s well into the shadows. Clever, very clever. That’s why we’ve not seen anything of them when we’ve been looking. I’m not sure anyone has checked behind the mercantile store, and if they had during the day, the van wouldn’t be here, and at night they probably would miss it.
The van doors open and the inner light shows Carrie-Anne and Angel climbing out. They are lighthearted about something, and we all hear them say Molly’s name. My teeth are clenched and if they say much about my Molly I’ll slit their throats and be done with them.
“Let’s eat. We have the cash from the stuff you sold, so we can live a little better for two or three days.” Carrie-Anne slides open the side door of the van, and with the inner lights it’s obvious they have made a place to sleep. There are pillows and comforters thrown around. They both grab something out of a brown bag, and before they can eat it, Griller appears behind Angel and Cannon behind Carrie-Anne.
I step out of the shadows along with Saddle. “Yeah, you have become a thief and a liar. Your pop would be more than proud of you I’m sure,” Saddle snidely remarks, taking the two women by surprise. Angel knows who we are because of her affiliation with the club, and I’m sure Bear is or has washed his hands of her.
“What are you doing here?” Angel has the nerve to ask.
“We are here to collect baggage, and you are that baggage,” I happily state.
Griller and Cannon grab the two of them, and I’m sure they could be knocked out in a minute with all the screaming and struggling they are doing. Saddle climbs into the van, and I run to our van we have prepared for our visitors.
CHAPTER 25
*~* Molly *~*
The new lady at the reception desk is just great. She listens to my direction, and she understands how to make appointments, and most other things I need.
“Trudy, do you need anything else at the moment?” I ask her as I grab for my purse, which I’d left at reception when I arrived this morning.
“I think I’ve got it, Molly.” Trudy gives me one of her bright smiles. She smiles easily, and she is very nice to be around. “The gentleman who does the handiwork told me he was going to the local store to get some things he needed to fancy up the kitchen. Well, that’s what he said.”
“That’s Tim; he has free rein to do what is needed. If he needs anything from you it’s okay; just leave me a note in case he forgets.”
“Okay, Molly, I can do that.”
“If you have time, can you do an inventory of what you have here at reception. We had an issue with the last one and think she was stealing the office products to sell. If we are short of anything for any of the offices, let me know and I will get an order placed immediately.”
“Oh, my, that is disgusting. I mean you wouldn’t get much cash for pencils, pens, notepads would you?” Trudy looks aghast, and I have to agree with her; it’s not that much in the scheme of things these days.
I tuck my purse under my arm and head out the door. I know Trudy will get on with her job as she’s so proficient, so I’m not going to worry about the reception area at all.
