“Okay, that’s cool. How do you know her?” I can’t help but ask.

“She’s the sister of someone I dated a long, long time ago. But we got on well, and have stayed friends even after he and I broke up. She’s looking for a position since she left her last receptionist job at the local dental practice. She knows how to work a reception desk like ours, making appointments, working with patients. She’ll be good and will slip into the role easily,” Jamie yawns, and I raise an eyebrow questioningly. “I was called into the practice last night when one of my elderly patients had a heart attack. He’s going to be okay and is in the hospital. Silly old fool thought he had indigestion and wanted me to give him some medicine.”

I grin because I can imagine Jamie’s response to that, and she looks at me, knowing what I’m thinking I’m sure, by the look on my face. “Did you give him hell, Jamie?”

“Sure did, silly fool. He’s a great man, and it would have been devastating to lose him when there was no need. He has a lot more living to do, in my opinion.”

“Did you find out what happened to the inventory for the reception?”

Jamie leans forward in her seat. “I think it was Angel stealing. My theory is that she was ordering extra stock, then selling it and pocketing the money. She couldn’t have gotten money otherwise, and we both know she stole Bear’s savings, well half of it.”

I laugh. “Yeah, and Breaker told me he got it back because Bull searched for it. The silly bitch put it into a savings account, you know to accrue interest.” We both break down laughing at the idiocy that is Angel.

“The good thing is she’s gone. Tim spoke to me a few minutes ago and said he’s securing all windows and doors after he found issues,” Jamie stands.

“Tim told me about the window issues, and it’s good he is quickly securing them. I wonder if that was how Angel got things out of the practice. When everyone had gone she came back and threw stuff to someone out the window?” I ponder more than speaking directly to Jamie.

“Who knows? I’m counting it as a loss and not going to worry about it. Tim said he’ll look at the alarm, and if it needs upgrading, I’ll speak with Bull about it. He knows about security systems, and I’m not going to get scammed by buying something without Bull checking it out.” Jamie gives me a wave after I nod agreement at her comment as she leaves the office.

My phone pings, and I pick it up from my desk, seeing it’s a message from Bri.

Bri: I have a message from one of the street girls. We are going to meet her after dark. You in?

Molly: Of course, I’m in. Give me the where and time?

Bri: We’ll pick you up at 8:30

Molly: OK

For the rest of the day, I keep thinking about meeting this girl on the street. I hope she can lead us to Carrie-Anne and get this issue stopped. I do not want to spend the rest of my life worryingabout what she is doing, and what trouble she is going to bring to my door.

It's the middle of the afternoon, and I look up when Cannon walks into my office. “You’ve got to come with me, Molly.”

“Why? What’s wrong?”

“Whack needs you at the compound. I’ve cleared it with Jamie. Now grab your purse and let’s go.” Cannon steps back to the door, and I pick up my purse and follow, wondering what the heck is going on.

“Where’s Breaker?”

“He’s hunting.”

“Hunting? What does that mean?” I stupidly ask.

“You know what hunting means, Molly. Your sick, twisted stepsister has left a calling card for you.”

Now, I rush out of the practice behind Cannon, and the club’s SUV is sitting right outside. Cannon opens the door, and I quickly hop in. We travel to the clubhouse, but neither of us speaks. It’s not an oppressive silence, but it is silence all the same.

Walking into Whack’s office, I give him a mumbled ‘Hi.’

“Take a seat, Molly. I had Cannon bring you here because your disgusting stepsister pushed a calling card into the perimeter fencing.” Holding a small card, the size of a business card, to show me, he continues. “It just says contact me and has what is supposed to be her digits. Now, Bull tracked the phone, and it’s one of the Cobras. I don’t know what the bitch is up to, but she wanted you to drop into the Cobra’s reach, that I’m sure of. I don’t know if she thought you’d pay for what she stole, or you’dbe made to whore yourself to pay off her debt. Neither scenario is happening, not in my lifetime.”

Gritting my teeth because I’ve more than had it with her, she’s nothing but trouble. I’ve been saying the same thing for years, but nobody would listen. “Tonight, we have a meeting with a street kid. Bri, and Marcia that is. We are going to see what she knows, what she’s found out. I’m not living like this any longer.”

“I want to arm you, Molly. Have you ever used a gun? Knife? Mace?” Whack is leaning forward on his desk and studying my response.

“I know how to use a weapon, as I used to go to the range when I was twenty. I had a boyfriend who was a gun freak, and he was always at the range, hence, so was I. I’ve not used a knife though apart from peeling vegetables and chopping them up,” I grin at Whack and he shakes his head at me.

“With her reaching out and setting you up for the Cobras, we need to be ready for anything. We’ll have you armed, so you can fire a weapon in any assailant’s direction.” Whack smirks, “If you were lucky you’d even hit them.”
