“Yea, Yanna Boo, pleeeease,” Kas followed up.

“Fine, hand me the damn phone.” The girl squealed, annoying Yanna even more as she skipped over and placed the phone in her hand. Yanna snapped the pictures, not caring to capture the right angles or lighting. She couldn’t care less about the aesthetics or how the picture would show on the girl’s Instagram. “Here.” Yanna shoved the girl’s phone into her hand, adding a roll of her eyes to show her displeasure.

“Thank you so much, Kas. Can I tag you when I post on IG? I already follow you.”

“Yea, that’s cool.”

“Oh, and thanks for taking the picture.” The girl tossed at Yanna before sneaking a quick hug from Kas and scurrying off.

“Irritating ass hoe.”

“Aww, you jealous?”

“Go to hell.”

“Mean ass. Anyway, what you wanna do first?”

“Eat, duh.”

Yanna dragged Kas to at least five different food stands, grabbing everything from fried Oreos, sausages and onions, to boiled peanuts and churros. In between their food gorging, they visited the mini petting Zoo and watched a bull riding competition. Yanna insisted on walking through an exhibit about the Mattaponi Indian tribe, then forced Kas to accompany her in visiting one of the sideshow attractions. After spending nearly two hours doing anything Yanna requested, Kas led her into an area set up as an arcade. The main attraction was a mini golf setup he really wanted to try.

“I don’t know why you brought me in here knowing I haven’t played golf a day in my life,” Yanna complained.

“You never played golf?”

“Nope. Never even been to Putt-Putt, so you gone have to show me.”

“How the hell you from Richmond and never been to Putt-Putt?”

Putt-Putt was a mini golf facility and arcade located in Richmond’s southside. Many kids used to have their birthdays there or used it as a weekend hangout. Yanna never made it to any of the parties or got to hang out there with friends.

“I just haven’t.”

“Ight, come on. I’ll show you.”

Kas handed her a club then led her to the beginning of the course. He stepped behind her, much closer than the lesson necessitated, and wrapped his arms around her body. Lowering, he rested his chin on her shoulder as he placed his hands over hers. “This hand need to be a little lower.” Guiding her, he slid her hand down the pole slowly.

“Like this?”

“Yea, just like that.” He placed a hand on her bare thigh, grip firm for no other reason but to hear the sigh that escaped her lips. The effect he had on her was not oblivious to Kas. “Move this leg back a little bit.”

“Now what?”

“Bring the club back.” He guided, and she obliged, moving her body with his. “Now swing.”

Yanna swung and got closer to the hole than either of them expected. “Ahhh, you should’ve kept that little lesson to yourself because I’m about to kick your ass. And don’t think I didn’t realize you used it to sneak and feel on me.”

“I done touched every centimeter of yo body, I didn’t need to sneak shit. Watch out, it’s my turn.”

Kas playfully pushed her out of the way, taking his spot at the front. He took a graceful swing, getting much closer to the hole.

“You know it’ll be rude if you don’t let me win, right?”

“And you know I don’t give a damn about being rude, so that logic don’t apply.” He smiled at her, allowing her back up for her turn.

For the next half hour, they played and flirted like new lovers on the perfect first date. Once they were finished with their game, Yanna beating Kas, he suggested they play a few games and hit a couple more food stands. When they finally felt as if they’d covered all corners of the fair, they retired to the Farris wheel for their finale. Yanna peered over the edge of their cart, taking in the view of the county and areas beyond it.

“This is nice, Kas. Thanks for doing this.”
