“I didn’t have shit else to do.”
“Boy, don’t act like you only brought me somewhere because you were bored,” Yanna fussed, tossing a piece of her funnel cake at him.
“Nah, for real. I get tired of arguing with you all the time. I just wanted to do something other than sitting in my house, yo house or Onyx and Troi’s shit.”
“Or Mumma Lay’s.”
“There too. But this the type of time I’m trying to be on with you every day. Showing you how much I want to be with youinstead of just telling you, because clearly you don’t be listening to me.”
“I listen. It may not seem like it but…” Yanna’s words faltered as her thoughts trailed to her mother. Such a beautiful, intelligent woman. Drinking herself to death and living in squalor because of a broken heart. A broken heart that shouldn’t be taking decades to mend. The thought of ending up like her mother terrified Yanna. She knew she gave Kas a hard time, but it was her mechanism of defense. Admitting it was harder than feeling it, but her feelings for Kas ran deep. “I be hearing you.”
“I know you do, Yanna boo,” Kas expressed, rubbing his hand up and down her arm. He didn’t need Yanna to elaborate because he understood her more than she knew. “Anyway, what you think Onyx gone have you doing at the label when you start in a few days?”
“Every damn thing. He’s already been sending me lists of tasks that need to be completed when I start. I never knew his ass could be so bossy.” Yanna replied.
“Oh, shit, I could’ve told you that. Onyx is all for nepotism, but for him, that shit don’t work without either talent or drive. Being related to him will give you a foot in the door, but in order to sit at the table inside, you got to put in work. Muh’fuckas always thought I had a nice house, nice cars, and money solely off the strength of him being my brother, but Nyx been putting me to work since I was fifteen.”
“Well, he not about to work me like a slave just to prove a point. I’m sure it won’t be bad though. The kind of work I’m being hired to do is what I excel at. Plus, it’ll beat being in the club all the time for sure.”
“Yea, you know I never liked that shit.”
“Boy, please. Yo ass used to be in the clubs with me three nights a week. Sure seemed like you liked it.”
“Nah, that was just so I could keep my eye on you. Don’t think I don’t know you sly as fuck.”
As if it was a paid actor, her phone buzzed in her hand. She checked it, shoving it in her pocket as soon as she saw the call notification from Destin. She gazed at Kas to see if he’d noticed but couldn’t tell either way.
“We not even about to talk about who the sly one is in this relationship.”
“Who? Because it damn sure ain’t me. I don’t be doing shit.”
“Mhmm. Why you ain’t tell me thatcan’t catch a tuneass Zahra be all in your face?”
“Why I needed to tell you that? Did you tell me about every nigga that used to try to get with you at the club? I don’t pay that broad no fucking attention.”
“Yea, tell me anything.”
“When have you ever known me to lie to kick it?”
“I could probably name a time or two, but I’m not even gone do that since we’re getting along right now.”
“Always with the shit.” Kas laughed, gazing at Yanna, while taking a sip of the hot chocolate she’d forced him to try.
His eyes traveled from her blonde waves to the button nose he found to be so adorable. The intricately painted fingernails he couldn’t understand why had cost him $180. Her thick thighs crossed one over the other. His manhood instantly hardened as his eyes rolled back up to her lips wrapping around her straw.Fuck. Jaiyanna Munroe held his heart in a way he couldn’t even put into words. He just wished she could release whatever damages she was holding on to and let their relationship flourish into the greatness he knew it had the potential to be.
“Your ass always staring.”
Kas chuckled, licking his lips, eyes blinking slowly. “I can’t look at you, Yanna?”
“Not like that. You making me feel shy.”
That made him guffaw. “Yo’ ass ain’t been shy a day in yo life!”
“You don’t know me for real. Alright, this Ferris wheel ride has been nice and all, but I’m ready to get off. The height is making me queasy.”
Kas informed the wheel operator to take them around one last time since he’d paid the man to let them be the only ones on the ride.
“Aye yo ass lied too, that won’t yo first time playing golf,” he accused as he pulled a rolled blunt and lighter from his pocket.
