Johnnie stared at her, defeat in his eyes and his shoulders slumping.

“Kendall deserves better,” Meggie continued. “She changed her entire outlook, everything about herself and placed her trust inyou. You’re slowly destroying her and all you can do is cry and apologize. Because you’re caught, not because you mean it. I left her in the clubhouse to save Celia, but Kendall was devastated. I’m sure she was trying to get control of herself so she could help Mattie.”

“My poor Kendall,” Bash murmured. “I need to call and check on gorgeous and my almost-stepdaughter.”

Ignoring Christopher’s guffaws and Johnnie’s putrid look, Meggie pressed her lips together so she wouldn’t laugh. When she looked at Bash, he winked at her. She suspected he was partly yanking Johnnie’s chains, although he truly seemed smitten with Kendall.

An unforeseen development.

“She probably needs a shoulder to cry on,” Bash continued. “She loves Mattie so much. All her kids. This must be hitting her very hard.”

“Do you know what’s even more incredible?” Meggie grumbled, facing forward again. “This man—” she pointed her thumb over her shoulder— “sounds more upset at what Kendall’s going through then you have in a very long time.”

“You called me a man, Meggie?” Bash asked, sounding truly surprised.

She half-turned and lifted a brow. “Are you a tomato?”

He smiled. “Definitely not. Most cunts just see me as a monster.”

“Bash,” Celia chided as Meggie bit out, “I wonder why.”

“Megan?”

“What, Johnnie? What? Omigod, you’re so annoying. Tell me what you want and then shut up.”

“Can I fuckin’ kick him in his throat to help him achieve that?”

“No-Kill List, remember?” Meggie sniffed.

“How do I get on it?” Bash asked.

“Celia and Easton are on it,” Meggie said.

“If I’m not on it, I won’t be around to spend time with them.”

“You ain’t gettin’ on that motherfucker,” Christopher snapped. “And Megan ain’t got a fuckin’ thing to say.”

“Aren’t I family?”

“Motherfucker, you barely trustworthy as a fellow club president. Don’t push your goddamn luck.”

“How about this, Bash?” Meggie said. “If you and Christopher work out a deal between the clubs, I will accept you as my brother-in-law and add you to the list.”

“Cleaner told me Wally, Jr. shot Easton,” Bash started, “but that’s not making a lot of sense to me. I can’t prove any different, though I warned that motherfucker not to fuck with my son. He’s always been a jealous fuckhead, hating anyone who he thinks will come between us, and dilute his power. Tio is willing to follow Cleaner’s orders. Easton isn’t. Neither is he cut out to be a Scorpion.” He cleared his throat and discomfort crossed his face. “Take him.”

Meggie lifted a brow. “Easton?”

Not taking his gaze off Christopher, Bash nodded. “Let Easton become a Dweller.”

“You outta your motherfuckin’ mind if you think I’m trustin’ that motherfucker.” Christopher glared at Megan. “Especiallyaround my wife.”

“Meggie’s a cheater?” Bash sounded truly confused.

“Fuck no! Megan ain’t never cheated on me and ain’t ever cheatin’ on me.”

“Then what the fuck are you talking about, asshole?” Bash said.

“That ain’t the fuckin’ point. She can’t have no more handsome motherfuckers around her.”
