She nodded."I think it will get their attention."

I shook my head."Are you baking them sweets?"

"I'll probably pick something up from Sweet Dreams.I want them to say yes, not get sick."

I laughed."You're not that bad of a baker."

She just gave me a look."I always forget the sugar or something important."

I stifled a laugh because she was right about that.

"Unlessyouwant to go to the fire house," she said as she gathered her things.

I shook my head."Absolutely not.Besides, your single, and I'm?—"

She closed her bag and slung the strap over her shoulder."In a friends-with-benefits situation?Got it."

"Good luck at the firehouse," I called as she walked out.

She smiled at me over her shoulder."It'll go great.Just wait and see."

Eve was always so confident.I was positive she could convince them to participate.I wish I had her powers of persuasion.Maybe I could convince Ford to see me as someone he could be with in the future.

I knew I was in over my head, but it was too late to change course now.I was excited to go to the ball with him this Saturday. But I hadn't mentioned it to Eve on purpose.I didn't want her to be disappointed in me.She knew I was only going to fall deeper in this thing with Ford, and it was going to hurt on the other end.

When I looked at the schedule for the week, this week's holiday ball was listed in our calendar as the fire department's holiday party. It would be more crowded than usual.

Eve must be renting out the balls for various organizations now.I'd have to talk to her about it, but not before this Saturday.I wanted one more night when it was just Ford and me, no judgment and no pressure.

I dove back into work, pleased that there weren't any interruptions. It was dark by the time there was another knock on my door.

"Ford," I said when he stepped into the room and shut the door behind him.

Then he turned the lock.

I raised my brow."What are you doing?"

His gaze was heated."I had some ideas when I popped in here earlier."

I stood, watching his gaze drop to the surface of my desk.I rested my hands on the edge."Did it involve this?"

His eyes flashed with desire."With you on it specifically."

I smiled as he came around the desk and into my space."That's funny because that's exactly what I was thinking."

"You don't need to be anywhere, do you?"

My mind was completely blank at this point. All I could think about was him and what he could do with me spread out over the desk."Nowhere else I want to be."

"Perfect," he said as he kissed me, my lips parting for him.

I looped my arms around his neck, pressing against him, needing to feel him at all times. He backed me up until I touched the edge of the desk, and then he lifted me so that I sat on it.He stepped between my legs."I've been thinking about this all day."

I tipped my head to the side, wrapping my legs around him."Was I on the desk like this or bent over it?"

He growled."I like the image of you bent over the desk."

I liked it too.
