“Should we name our firstborn Henry then?”

I shake my head. “No.”

“No?” He leans back so he can see me. “You have something else in mind?”

“I do.” But I’m not ready to give that up just yet. “Let’s be sure I’m actually pregnant and that everything’s okay.”

“Agreed.”

Chapter Forty-One

It’s Official

Sam

It’s official. I’m going to be a father. Our little bundle will be here around June 22. And I can’t fucking wait.

“Dearly beloved…” I hear my brother say those words, and I know this shit is real. I’m marrying the woman of my dreams, the mother of my future children, and my best friend. I look down at her and smile. She’s not feeling the best today, what with the morning sickness and all, but she’s keeping a brave face. Mostly because she doesn’t want anyone to know she’s pregnant just yet. Not until we get past the point we know everything is okay, viable. I agree with her. There’s no need to get everyone excited about the baby until we’re in the clear.

“Do you, Samuel Franklin Griffin, take Colette Nicole Munsel to be your lawfully wedded wife?”

“I do.”

I hear Colette repeat her words, but my head is sort of swimming right now. When I hear her say, “I do,” I bend and kiss her.

“Dude. Not yet,” my brother Keith snaps. “Just chill, man.”

I hear laughter and turn to look at our small gathering. Everyone is laughing. Even her sisters.

Maybe things are going to be okay.

****

Maybe not.

“You’re pregnant.”

I hear the voice coming from the hallway leading to our bedroom. I know it’s one of her sisters. I’ll just assume it’s Candy.

“Candy…”

Yep. I knew it. When I peer down that way, I see they’ve circled around her. She’s essentially cornered.

“Why else would you throw this thing together so quickly?”

I’d worry about this if all of them weren’t smiling from ear to ear. Sonia passes by me on my right joining the women. “Colette, my dear…”

I wrap my arm around Colette, and it’s then I notice she’s white as a sheet. “I am.” Raising up one finger signaling she needs a moment, Colette makes a mad dash for the bathroom.

“Morning sickness,” Sonia says with a nod. “I had it bad. With Chris, mostly.”

“Me too,” Candy adds. “Hell, I think we all did.” She looks at Carla and Connie, who are both nodding.

“It’s the Munsel curse.”

That gets them all laughing. I don’t know why that’s funny.
