Sam chuckles. “Yeah. You’ll be the cool mom.”

“Not too cool so our kid thinks they can get away with murder. Just the right amount of cool.”

“Of course.” Sam touches my belly. “How long?”

“I figure it happened when I was taking antibiotics, but we’ll have to see what the doc says.”

His palm is still on my belly. “I’ll take you to your appointment. I want to be there. For everything.”

“I know you do.” I kiss him. “You’re going to be the best partner and the best daddy.”

Another tear leaks from his eye. “You think?”

“I know.”

Sam wraps his arms around me and pulls me in close. “We’re getting married.”

“I know.”

“This weekend.”

“Oh?” I laugh. “How are you going to arrange all that?”

“Keith is ordained.”

“Since when?” This is all news to me.

“Since I asked him to get ordained.”

“Where’s this wedding going to take place?”

“On the deck overlooking the lake. Right where I proposed. It’s also where I realized I loved you.”

“You’ve never told me that.”

“You never asked.” He looks at me, his face turning serious. “When did you know you loved me?”

“Oh, way before you. I believe you were washing your truck without your shirt on.”

“That’s lust, babe. When did you love me?”

I feel like teasing him some more, but this is a rather serious moment for us. “I think it was the night you brought me here. When we went down and watched the sunset over the lake.”

His hand rests on the back of my head, urging it down onto his chest. “We’re so lucky.”

“We are.”

“Moving into that duplex was the best decision I ever made.”

“Oh, you’re taking the credit?”

“Of course.”

I pet Henry, who’s made himself quite comfortable on my lap. “I think the credit belongs to Henry Miller.”

Sam pets Henry. Henry starts to purr. “I suppose we should credit him. He made the first introduction.”

“He did.”
