I raise and lower the shoulder that isn’t weighed down by the backpack. “No worries.” I can’t look at him right now. I feel my eyes burn and know that means there are tears threatening to leak out.

“I guess this was a bad idea.”
I need to go.Now.Before the tears start to fall. I will not let this guy see me cry. No way does he need to know his words hurt me. “Okay. Well, I’ll see you around.” Hopefully he takes the hint and doesn’t come to the library anymore. Otherwise, I’m going to have to quit my job ––––and I need it. I need it a lot.
