“Done.” I smile up at him.
“And give me a couple more babies.”
“No problem.”
Well, except for labor. Funny. When I think about it now, it wasn’t so bad.
On the ride home, we hold hands the entire way. “By the way. IgaveCassie that loveseat. She didn’t buy it.”
“She told me she bought it for a hundred bucks. I paid one fifty.”
“I’m going to kill Cassie,” I mutter.
“Nah. It’s worth every penny if it makes you happy.”
“Buying things isn’t necessary. I’m not that kind of girl.”
“You liked your dress, though, right?” He nods down at me.
“I do. You chose well.”
Nate’s voice is deep and raspy when he adds, “I can’t wait to take it off of you.”
Me neither. “Your mom is…”
“Staying with Matt.”
“Oh. Yay.” And then I giggle like a dork.
He looks over at me and smiles. A very sexy smile.
“Definitely a ‘yay’ kind of moment.”

“Thanks again, Mom.”
I’m doing my best to shoo her out the door, but she keeps lingering. She wants to tell us about every single thing Brynn did while we were gone, and on any other night, I’d probably plop down on my sofa and let her talk, because I love hearing about Brynn, but not tonight. No. Tonight I want to take my woman to bed and show her, rather than just tell her, how I feel about her.
“And she just cooed and cooed at me.” Mom’s beaming, she’s so thrilled with her time with her granddaughter. I knew she’d jump at the chance to watch our girl tonight. She’s a retired school librarian and while she’s busy with her friends, hobbies, my dad, she’s never going to be too busy for Brynn. “What a sweet baby.” Her smile changes—turning into something softer and sincere. “I’m so happy for you, baby boy.”
I nod because I know she is. I also know she misses Aiden almost as much as me. Moving in, she wraps her arms around my waist and hugs me tight. “We all miss him, honey. And we always will, but that little girl, and Maggy… well, they’re going to help you find a new happy.”
“They already have, Mom.” I clear my throat because her words are getting to me. “We, uh…” Shit, should I tell my mom this shit?
Yeah. Why not?
“We both said we l-love each other tonight.”
“Oh.” Mom’s head is against my chest, and she hasn’t moved even after I said all that. I get why when I hear a sniffle.
“Don’t cry, Mom.” Crying freaks me out. Especially when it’s Mom. And Maggy.
She looks up at me, tears obvious. “I’m so happy for you both. Maggy’s a wonderful girl.”
She is.
