I preferred to wait until after the ritual to show her the real me—the person who didn’t want to let her out of my sight. The guy who would use any excuse necessary to stick to her like a barnacle. But if she wasn’t going to make this easy, then I was ready to go hard.
And yes, I meant that in every form of the word.
She shocked me when she grinned, “Just keeping you on your toes. I’ll see you both at lunch.” Adelaide winked and then slipped inside the classroom before we could reply.
“That little brat,” John growled, but didn’t attempt to hide the smile spreading across his face.
“She really is, isn’t she?” My smile mirrored the one gracing his face.
I would admit to being slightly disappointed… I really wanted to have an excuse to go hard.
Not that I wasn’t already.
We both stood looking through the small window in the door, admiring Adelaide. Neither of us was ready to leave. We’d found our Nexus, and she was perfect for us.
How had I slept with all those other women? Thinking back now, I was appalled. None of them were anywhere near her level of perfection. I should have remained pure and untouched. On the other hand, she would benefit from my experience. Yep, that’s how I would look at it… I was doing it for her.
John thumped me on the forehead, “What the fuck, bro?”
“I called your name twice. What are you thinking about so hard?” He eyed me with suspicion.
“That I should have remained pure for our girl.” I frowned when he died laughing.
“That ship has sailed, brother. Let’s just make sure she benefits from the knowledge we’ve gained.” He waggled his brows.
Great minds think alike.
“We should probably get to our class,” John said, but made no move to do so.
“We probably should.” I agreed. Also, not moving an inch. “…or we could wait here until her class is over and walk her to the next one.”
“That’s a better idea. She may have trouble finding it and need our help.” His eyes never left the window. “Who’s that guy staring at her?”
I peered into the classroom, “That’s Rue Walters. He’s brilliant. I have him in my advanced calculus class. The guy has already finished all the assignments for the semester. Apparently, he’s some kind of prodigy even as a passive.” I frowned in confusion and wondered aloud, “Why is he even taking this class? He’s way too advanced for it.”
“I think the way he’s gazing at our girl might answer your question.” John motioned at me to look back through the window.
I took another glance, and this time I noticed the adoration on his face. “Well, damn, I guess we weren’t the first to meet her after all.”
“Seems that way.” John sighed, “I need to look deeper into his background and make sure he’s a good fit for her.”
I rolled my eyes. “He's going to be a great addition to any Faction. The guy is brilliant, and not only that, his family is even wealthier than Ubel Brummond’s.”
John was stunned and asked, “How have I never heard of him?”
“I hadn’t either until he was in my class. After seeing how smart he was, I grew curious and started asking around.”
“You mean after you discovered he was smarter than you?” My asshole brother smirked.
I flipped him off, “Maybe that was the reason, but at least it’s coming in handy now. And to answer your question, he keeps to himself. He’s very quiet and if my sources are correct, doesn’t really like people.”
“Watching him make his move should be interesting.” John snickered.
I nodded in agreement, “I also heard that he’s in high demand. Several powerful people are trying to push him in the direction of their precious children.”
John glanced at me, “Looks like their efforts are going to be wasted. He’s clearly enamored with Adelaide.”
“Who could blame him?” I shrugged. I wasn’t a hypocrite. I’d only met her less than an hour ago, and I didn’t want to take my eyes off of her. I needed to ask the brainiac how he got his schedule changed. If he were a possible Faction brother, we might as well start working together now.
