I looked up hesitantly.
“There’s nothing wrong with that. You’ve never been in that situation. The most important thing is that you didn’t stay that way.
Oren told your Pop that you almost separated the asshole's nuts from his body.” She smiled, “I can’t tell you how proud that makes me.”
“I wish I’d been the one to kill him.” I scowled.
“I’m sure you do, but your Faction needs to prove that they’re worthy of you. Even though you may not think it's necessary, their instincts will drive them to do it.” Mom turned and stretched out in her chair, putting her hands behind her head.
“I get that.” I sighed, “How bad do you think things are going to get?”
“Bad, my darling. Really bad.” Now, it was her turn to sigh. “I think things are coming to a head, and we’d better be ready. We lost the first war, but we can’t lose this one. I’m afraid they want to eradicate us and take this world like they did Aurathia. We can’t allow that to happen… I WON’T allow that to happen, and neither will your fathers.”
I stared at the stars, just processing what she’d said. I knew Mom was right, and it terrified me, not for myself, but at the possibility of losing all I held dear.
“I won’t allow it either. Whatever this power is inside of me, I’ll use every bit of it to prevent that from happening.” I turned my head to meet her eyes, “I love you, Momma.”
“I love you, too, my baby.”
We decided to spend the night here and meet Zeke and Zane's parents together tomorrow. I was both nervous and excited at the same time.
I really wanted them to like me. Not only was I in love with their sons, but their daughter was my best friend.
I’d called Chloe earlier, and she was going to join us along with Oliver. It seemed that the relationship was headed toward performing the ritual sooner rather than later.
I was happy for my girl. Oliver seemed like a great guy, and his personality complemented Chloe’s. I’d bet she had a few more Faction waiting in the wings. It would take about twenty to keep up with her.
I smiled at the thought just as my door slowly opened, and Nathan slipped in.
“Hey, Nexi, mine. I hope you didn’t think you were sleeping alone after I watched you sashay around all evening in my jersey.”
I frowned at him, “I don’t sashay, and I hope you don’t think we’re going to be having sex while under my parents' roof.”
“We had sex under your parents' roof that night after graduation.” He waggled his brows and grabbed me around the waist.
“They were all here! And how was I supposed to resist you after that strip tease you performed?” I leaned in and bit his neck gently.
Nathan moaned and leaned down to whisper in my ear,
“Was that why? Or was it because you got jealous when you heard Shelly and Tonya talking about wanting to try to lure me behind the bleachers?”
“I knew they didn’t stand a chance, but I’ll admit to feeling the need to remind you of who you belonged to.” Now it was my turn to moan when he licked my neck, then sucked it gently.
I heard a throat clear.
“What’s going on in here, young lady?” Zane smirked.
I jumped at the intrusion, but Nathan never moved his attention from my neck. I tried to answer him, but instead, my head fell back, and I couldn’t contain a moan.
“Looks like I got here just in time.” I could hear the heat in Zane’s voice.
Nathan raised his head.
“You’re not invited to participate, but we don’t mind if you watch.”
“Don’t mind if I do.” Zane took a seat at the end of my bed.
“Are those minion sheets?” He laughed.
