He was fucking annoying, and if he kept up his shit, I would cut the mark off him at my earliest convenience. I’d noticed the others giving him hateful looks, too. Even Jet. This morning's incident proved he was just as unhinged as the rest of us. No doubt he’d fit right in.
“What happened with Reverie’s eyes?” I repeated slowly. Nathan looked at me in annoyance, irritated that he had to glance away from his new mark.
“Her pupil was replaced with a green flame. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
Reverie shook her head in denial at his words. I’d noticed that she looked exhausted. The last few days have been hectic forall of us. This new development was just one more thing she had to deal with. My poor angel needed her rest, and I would ensure she got it.
Preferably while my face was between her legs.
“I felt a heat in my chest, and my vision blurred. When I checked the source of my power, Nathan’s ring of green had merged with my Nexus ability.” She looked at me imploringly, “Please tell me you know what this means.”
She tucked her head under my chin, and I felt her breathing in my scent.
I was gone for her.
I had been since the first time I’d seen her.
“I know the ability, but I don’t understand why it’s reappeared now.” I kissed her head. “I have some theories, but I need to dig deeper before I have a solid lead.” She snuggled deeper into my embrace.
“How dangerous is this for her?” Jet spoke up from his position by the door.
I could hear the worry in his voice. The time was coming when he’d have to come to terms with all of this. He couldn’t split his loyalty between his Nexus and his career in the military. The Aurathion in him wouldn’t allow it.
Neither would I.
After seeing the lengths he was willing to go for her, I knew it was only a matter of time. The issue was that we needed to come together sooner rather than later. Reverie’s new ability would be difficult to hide for long. We needed her Faction to be complete.
There was no other option.
I’d do whatever was necessary to make it happen.
She was my priority.
All the guys were waiting for my answer.
“On a scale of one to ten, I’d say a twenty.”
“Fuck!” Zeke stood and started pacing. “Do we need to leave the academy?”
I thought about it as I cuddled my Nexus in my arms. Having her this close was distracting. Feeling her breasts pressed against my chest, smelling her sweet scent, those things combined had my dick standing at attention.
I took a deep breath, “No, that would be the worst thing we could do. She has to finish her initiation so that her bonds can be revealed. Weneedto complete this Faction.” I narrowed my eyes at the three guys who were yet to bond with Reverie. “You’re all going to need abilities to help defend our Nexus. As it stands now, you're less than useless.”
“Fuck you, Oren.” Zeke bit out. “I would die for her.”
“That’s not what she needs. She needs you to live for her.” I growled, frustrated with the whole situation.
Zane didn’t speak but was watching Reverie with a gleam in his eyes. He was planning something.
I smiled with approval. It’s about time the Moon’s got off their ass and made something happen. The bonding ceremony was a good idea, but keeping her safe was more important. I was starting to wonder where the guys who had been my friends were.
They’d never denied themselves something they wanted. Now would be a perfect time for them to make a reappearance.
Jet started to speak but I cut him off. “Yes, even you.”
That dumbass was going to dig a hole he couldn’t get out of with my Nexus if he didn’t figure his shit out. Any other time, I’d enjoy watching him suffer, but I needed her Faction whole, so I would have to push him. Reverie raised her head.
“Not him. He doesn’t feel that way about me, and unlike you two,” she raised an eyebrow at Nathan and me. “I refuse to force anyone.”
