I was unable to speak or move at that moment. The power flooding my body felt as if it was changing me on a cellular level.

A tingling sensation spread from my head to the tips of my toes, making me feel invincible. Slowly, the power began to fade, and exhaustion started to set in.

Nathan stood and took my arm, urging me to my feet, not taking his gaze off me.

“We need to get to Oren.”

Chloe laid her hand on my other arm, and as soon as her flesh met mine, two things happened simultaneously: Nathan let out a vicious growl, and I felt a surge of power where she touched.

Chloe yelped and fell back, “Shit!” She cradled her hand.

Zane grabbed her wrist and turned her palm, where we could see that it was red and looked like she had a second-degree burn.

He looked at me in astonishment, “What the hell just happened?”

Nathan was still staring at Chloe like he might jump her at any minute. When I started to go to her, he snarled and wrapped his body around me protectively. I jerked away from him, desperate to check on my friend. I was surprised at the ease with which I could accomplish this. I narrowed my eyes at him when he reached to pull me back into his arms again.

“Chloe, I’m so sorry! I have no idea what the hell is going on!” I approached, careful not to touch her.

“Don’t worry about me, bestie, just get to Oren and find out what’s going on.” She gritted out, obviously in pain.

“Get them out of here, now! I’ll take care of your sister.” Professor Lee ordered Zane in a gruff voice.

He nodded, “Let’s go.” Though reluctant to leave Chloe, he knew we needed to go before people noticed what was happening.

I grabbed Nathan’s hand, desperately wanting a physical connection. I was acting like a crazy person, throwing him off one minute, then pulling him back the next. When we got to the door, Jet stood there waiting for us.

“Why are you coming?” I wasn’t trying to be a bitch, but I just didn’t understand why he kept inserting himself into our group. This man’s actions confused me to no end.

“He can come,” Nathan growled out. Still sounding like he’d gargled with glass.

I was momentarily stunned by Nathan’s defense of Jet. He didn’t want Chloe near me andknewshe wasn’t dangerous. Why was he okay with Jet? This day couldn’t end soon enough.

None of that mattered now. I needed to get to Oren. Usually, Nathan was my safe place, but right now, I wanted Oren like I needed air to breathe. Instinctively, I felt he would know what was going on.

“Where are they going?” Kristine demanded.

“You’re here to assist me. What they’re doing is none of your business.” The Professor said in a no-nonsense voice.

She replied to him, but I couldn’t hear what was said as Jet closed the door behind us.

“Contact Oren and tell him to meet us in his apartment.”

Zane was staring at Nathan in concern.

He’d wrapped himself around me again and was looking around the dark hallway like we were going to be attacked at any moment.

“Oren, can you meet us at your apartment? Something happened to Nathan and me. We need your help figuring out what’s going on.”

“What the fuck happened?”He sounded frantic.

“I wish I knew. Nathan is acting more psycho than usual, and Chloe burned her hand just touching my arm.”

“Tell him to teleport there now.I’m on my way.”

“Can you teleport us there? Jet and Zane can walk over.”

We needed to get behind closed doors before something else happened. Nathan didn’t say anything. He just led us to an alcove hidden in the shadows. He picked me up, and I wrapped my legs around his waist.
