He gave me a sheepish look, “Honestly, in all the excitement, I forgot. You can’t be mad at me, though. Zeke is the responsible one, and he didn’t warn you either.”
He had a point.
I turned to Zeke and elbowed him. “Why didn’t you let me know what was going on?”
Zeke looked as surprised to see me as Zane had. Pulling me onto his lap, he spoke into my ear. “I was going to, but I wanted to give you time to eat breakfast first. These two idiots shouldn’t cause you to go to class on an empty stomach.” I kissed him softly.
“What was that for? Not that I’m complaining.” He smiled.
“For always having my health and well-being in mind.” I kissed him once more.
I felt like sometimes my sweet Zeke didn’t get enough attention. He was almost as quiet as Jet and caused the least friction out of anyone in the group.
“Why are they fighting?” I asked, returning my attention to the men in the arena. I was sure I knew the cause, but I wanted to confirm it.
It looked like Nathan had gotten a few more shots in on Oren yet he was still untouched.
“Over you, of course.” He moved his lips against my ear as he talked, causing me to shiver uncontrollably.
That’s what I thought. I needed to have a talk with Nathan about my capabilities. “Nathan found out about how Oren became Faction.”
Zeke nodded, “Yep. I’ll give Oren credit. When Nathan asked him about it, he led him here. He didn’t give Nathan an answer until they arrived, and you can see what happened next.”
I watched as Nathan continued to pummel Oren. He was now bleeding from his mouth and nose and hadn’t thrown any punches at Nathan so far.
“Are you going to stop it?” Zeke asked his attention back on the guys.
I thought about it for a minute before answering. “No, not at the moment. Apparently, Oren thinks he deserves punishment, and my psycho needs to dole some out. It’s a win, win.”
About that time, Chloe forced her way between me and Zane.
“What the fuck, Chloe?” Zane yelled when her elbow caught him in the ribs.
“Well, move your fat ass, Moon. My bestie needs me to comfort her during this time of turmoil!” She stuck her tongue out at him.
“You take that back! My ass is perfect. Just the right amount of lift and roundness.” He said, outraged.
Chloe stared at him briefly, shaking her head, then turned to me. “What the hell is going on with these two?” She waved her hand at the two morons currently bleeding. Well, the one moron bleeding and the idiot handing out the punishment.
“Seems like Nathan found out how Oren became Faction,” I rolled my eyes.
“That makes sense. Are you going to stop it?” She cocked one eyebrow.
“Nope. Not yet, at least. They’re both grown-ass men and need to work it out.”
I heard the crowd give out a collective “AWWW” and saw that Oren had started fighting back. He gave a roundhouse kick to Nathan’s face, which rocked him back on his heels.
“What are the rules?” I asked Zeke.
“Usually, there aren’t any. But before they started fighting, Oren and Nathan agreed not to use their abilities. Neither are supposed to have any, so at least they’re keeping a cool head.”
I could hear in his voice that he agreed and was proud of them for keeping my safety at the forefront. I sighed in relief. I wasn’t planning on stopping them unless it got out of hand. But their decision not to use their abilities pleased me. Nathan was strong, but Oren had abilities we weren’t even aware of yet.
I winced when Oren struck out with a punch Nathan could not defend against. It was a direct hit to his nose, and I could hear the crunch from here. Nathan came back with a punch to Oren’s gut that had the breath whooshing out of him.
It seemed like Nathan had learned a thing or two since he’d been gone.
While Oren was bent over, Nathan punched him in the chin, snapping his head back and causing him to stumble. He chose that moment to look over at me in triumph.
