“I was debating on taking you up on the offer to use your bath.”She peeks up at me with a smirk.

“You should.You deserve to relax.”

“Are you sure you don’t mind?”

“Not at all. There are some bubbles in the cabinet too.”

“Do you take bubble baths?”She asks with amusement filling her tone, her entire face lighting up.

“Sometimes I fill it with bubbles and put on my bathing suit, then Tali and I get in.She’s too young for the hot tub, so I don’t really use it, but she can do the bathtub. She’s just super slippery when you’re trying to hold onto her and keep her above the water.”

“That’s… really adorable.Next time you do it, I want to see how she reacts.”

“She loves it.We haven’t done it in a while though.Maybe we’ll have to this weekend.”

Chapter 16

Winnie

Slippingunderthelayerof bubbles, I let out a sigh of relief as my muscles instantly start to relax.I forgot how much work a toddler is.I love chasing her around the house and backyard, but it’s a lot more physical activity than the Marshall’s kids have been the past few years.

Tali’s so great though. She loves playing with me and following me around the house. She’s like a little shadow and I'm honored she’s so comfortable around me already.

I slide a little lower under the bubbles and lean my head back.I wish I had thought to bring a book in here.Something for me to do other than think.Honestly, thinking is the last thing I need to be doing right now.

“Hey, Jamie?”I call, unsure if he’ll be able to hear me.I don’t want to wake up Tali, but she’s a fairly sound sleeper.

“Yeah?”I hear his muffled voice on the other side of the door.

“Could you do me a massive favor?”

“Of course.”

“Well, first can you open the door.I feel stupid talking with a door between us.”

The door slowly swings open and I burst out laughing when Jamie’s standing on the other side with his hands over his eyes. His black, curly hair is sticking up in every direction. It looks like he’s been running his fingers through it nonstop.

“What are you doing?”

“I'm making sure I don’t see anything I'm not supposed to.”

“Jamie, open your eyes.”

He stands still for a second before he slowly parts his fingers and looks through them at me.

“Stop it!”I laugh even harder.I'm completely covered with bubbles and I know he can’t see me.

“What did you need, sweetheart?”He smirks as he drops his hands to his sides.

“Would you be able to get me a book to read?”I scrunch up my nose, feeling like I'm asking too much.

“Sure.Any special book or should I just guess?”

“Surprise me, but it has to be romance.”

“Dang, this sounds like a lot of pressure. What if I pick something dark and you’re in a romcom mood?Or I go with fantasy and you hate elves?”

“How much do you know about romance books?”My grin widens as I watch him shift uncomfortably.
