He might have been several inches shorter than George, but there was a vicious glint in his eyes that said he was not a man to screw with.
"Who is he?" Randal asked.
"That's George's mate, León, his human mate. He used to be a professional bodyguard. That's how they met, in fact. He was assigned as George's bodyguard when George had some trouble at our old clan."
"A human bodyguard for a bear shifter that size?"
"Like I said, George is a gentle soul. He can fight when he needs to—especially if someone threatens his mate—but he'd really rather not."
Huh.
"Who's the other guy?"
"Oh, that's George's cousin, Ford. He's a bear, too."
Harvey's sudden laughter caught Randal by surprise. "What?"
"It's just, a couple of weeks ago we were a clan of like six shifters. Now, between the Silver Lake Clan, the King Clan, and those who are on their way to join us, we have over seventy-five people in our clan. It's insane."
That was pretty insane.
"Who's still coming to join the clan?" Luca asked.
"Our parents, for one. They refused to stay in a clan where we weren't welcome. They just have to finish up a few things back home before they move here." Rob shook his head. "I have no idea where I'm going to put them."
"They can have my house," Randal said. "I'm moving in with Luca."
Harvey turned to look at him. "You'd be willing to let my parents have your house?"
Randal shrugged. "I don't need it."
"They'd be willing to pay you fair market value, I'm sure."
"Like I said, they can have it. I don't need it." Randal squeezed the arm he had around Luca's shoulder. "You gave me the world when you allowed me to claim my mate and have him in the clan. You can have whatever you want, except him."
Harvey chuckled. "My parents would never accept your house without paying you for it, but I'm sure you can reach acceptable terms for both of you."
Randal smiled weakly, hoping the subject would just be dropped. This wasn't an area he was comfortable with. He'd rather just give the house to the alpha's parents than take payment for it. He truly didn't need it, but they did. Why shouldn't they have it?
Besides, as much as he wanted his stuff, he never wanted to set foot in that place again.
After Rob parked, Randal climbed out of the truck and then waited for Luca. Together, they walked around the front of the truck to join Rob, Jeb, and Harvey. Rob walked up the steps to where the three men stood.
"León, I'm glad you're here." Rob held out the small black device he'd found at Randal's house. "What can you tell me about this?"
León took the device and looked it over. "It's a standard voice activated tri-band GSM one-way audio device with about a ten foot listening range. It's what we call a one room listener."
"And what's that?" Harvey asked.
"Devices like this are really only good for up to one room. If you wanted to listen to someone anywhere in a house, you'd have to place one of these in each room."
"How close does someone have to be to hear it?"
"I'd say the range on this is probably no more than two hundred feet." León shrugged. "You'd have to be pretty close."
"Where would you get something like this?"
"It's a cheap model anyone can buy off the internet."
