Lex sucked in a painful breath. "Tony, I'm waiting on the police to get here. Someone broke into my apartment and went through my stuff."

"What?" Tony shouted. "Are you in danger?"

"No, I don't think so." It felt as if whoever had been here was already gone. "I don't think anything is missing, but stuff got moved around." Oh wait, stuff was missing. "I take that back. All of my toys from my toy drawer are gone."

"Your toy drawer?" Tony asked that like he'd never heard the phrase before.

Lex felt his face flame with heat. "Yes, my toy drawer. You know, adult toys. Butt plugs, silk ties, lube, that sort of thing."

Tony cleared his throat before asking, "And it's all gone?"

"Yes." If he was this embarrassed telling Tony about what was in that drawer, he doubted he'd be able to tell the police. That was going to create a problem. He couldn't report a theft if he didn't report anything stolen.

"Does anyone else have the key to your apartment?"

"No, and there's a separate key to my toy drawer and it was locked, too."

"So, someone definitely had to unlock it to get to your toys?"

"Yes."

"Are you sure no one is still in the apartment?"

Fear slithered up Lex's spine as he glanced around. "I don't think so."

He started walking around, checking the kitchen, dining room, bathroom, and hallway closet. Once again, he got the feeling as if something was off, but he couldn't quite figure out what it was.

"There's no one here but me, Tony."

"Have you called the police yet?"

Lex rolled his eyes. He'd already said he had. "Yes, Tony, they're on their way."

"I'm leaving the garage now. I'll have to drive into the city to catch a flight, but I should be there in a few hours. Once you deal with the police, I want you to lock the apartment up tight and don't answer the door for anyone but me. Understand?"

Lex rolled his eyes. Yes, he was freaked out, but he wasn't helpless. "I'm fine, Tony. You don't have to come rescue me."

He was not a child.

"I know I don't need to rescue you, Lex. I still want to see you with my own eyes and make sure you're all right."

Lex smiled. He couldn't exactly argue with that. "Okay."

He stayed on the line with Tony until the police arrived. Once he'd hung up, he opened the door and allowed the officers inside. There were two of them, a man and a woman. It was immediately apparent from the disgust in the male officer's eyes that he'd be no help.

Lex turned his attention to the female officer.

"You reported a break-in," she said as she pulled out a pad of paper and a pen. "Can you tell me what happened?"

"I had just come home from shopping. I didn't realize something was wrong until I started putting stuff away. Things had been moved in my bedroom."

"What sort of things?" the officer asked.

"My clock was moved from one side of the bed to the other. My robe had been hung up. Stuff like that."

"That was it?" the male officer asked. "Stuff was moved?"

"Was anything taken?" the other officer asked.
