He knew from their phone conversations that Tony liked to play a bit. Some of their conversations had gotten pretty heated, but in a good way. In a way that had Lex jacking off as soon as they got off the phone on several different occasions. He hadn't admitted that to Tony yet. That was just a little more intimate than he was ready for.
That sounded a lot stranger in his head when he really thought about it. He'd allowed Tony into his body, but he was too nervous to tell the guy he jerked off after their phone conversations?
Yeah, he was wacked.
Lex finished up his grocery shopping then made his way down the street to the adult store. He found it amusing that all of these little shops were in a six-block radius from his apartment. It was one of the reasons he liked living in the city so much.
He'd been in the store more than once, but he was always amazed at the things he could find. There were a lot of kinky people in the world. That was good for people like him. He wasn't into whips and chains or anything like that, but he did like to get his freak on every now and then.
He just hoped Tony did, too.
Lex picked up a few items he was pretty sure they'd enjoy then made his way back to his apartment. He passed a man as he went into his building who looked vaguely familiar. Lex paused and watched him walk out the front door. He couldn't place where'd he'd seen the guy before, but he was sure he had.
Lex shook his head and continued inside the building. He'd met so many people when he'd been working for the senator, he couldn't even begin to count them all. He'd probably met the guy in passing somewhere at the capitol.
Besides, he had better things to think about.
Lex got in the elevator and rode it up to his floor. He wasn't exactly sure when Tony would be able to come back to the city, but he hoped it was soon. He had all sorts of delicious plans for the man.
He unlocked his door and stepped inside, remembering to lock it again after he closed it. He lived in one of the nicer neighborhoods in Georgetown, but one could never be too careful. Bad things happened to good people.
Lex carried his groceries into the kitchen and put them away then carried his other items into the bedroom to put them in a special drawer inside his TV armoire. He set the small paper sack down on the bed then reached into his nightstand for his key. This was another one of those things he preferred to keep locked. Some things were not meant for public viewing. His toy drawer was one of them.
He unlocked the drawer and pulled it open then just stared.
After a moment, Lex swallowed tightly then stuck his hand inside the drawer and moved it from one end to the other, just to make sure he wasn't hallucinating and the drawer was actually empty.
It should have been filled with sex toys. Butt plugs, vibrators, cock rings, silk ties, and a blindfold, not to mention several different bottles of lube—he had a variety—and everything was gone.
There was no way his toys could have disappeared unless someone had taken them, but he clearly remembered unlocking the drawer, which meant someone had to have found the key.
Lex started to get a very sick feeling in the pit of his stomach. He glanced around his bedroom. Unease filled him when he noticed several items moved from their usual places.
His mahogany watch box had been moved to the left side of his dresser instead of the right. His bathrobe was hung on the back of the bedroom door instead of tossed across the end of the bed where he'd left it this morning. The clock on his nightstand had been moved to the opposite nightstand. The differences were so subtle, he might not have noticed if he hadn't opened his toy drawer.
Someone had definitely been inside his apartment.
Lex pulled his cell phone out of his pocket and dialed the police. He hurried back into the main room and started looking around. He couldn't spot anything out of place in the rest of the apartment, but he couldn't shake the feeling that it was.
When 911 answered, Lex quickly reported a break-in. After telling him not to touch anything, the operator told him a police unit was on its way. Lex had never been burglarized before, but even he knew not to touch anything.
While his fingerprints would be found all over the apartment, it was whoever else's print that forensics would find that were important. Lex didn't want to mess up any evidence the police might find.
He stood by the front door as he waited. His nerves were so fried, he knew he needed to hear a friendly voice so he dialed Tony.
"Hey, babe," Tony said when he answered. "Brody said you left a message about some flowers?"
Lex smiled as he glanced toward the dining room. He couldn't see the flowers from where he was, but he knew that they were there. "Yes, I wanted to thank you for them."
"Lex, I didn't send you any flowers."
Cold dread wrapped around Lex's spine. "You didn't send me flowers?"
"No," Tony replied. "I probably should have thought about it, but I didn't. Sorry."
"If you didn't send the flowers, then who did?"
"Got a secret admirer?"
