"No extradition treaty with the United States." That seemed kind of self-explanatory to me. "Besides, I suspect if you have enough money, and this guy does, they will pretty much let you do whatever you want."
"We are so fucked," Andrew whispered.
"Yeah." I snorted. "Pretty much."
I had no idea what we were going to do. This was so far out of my realm of understanding that I felt lost. I could work a computer and make it practically purr for me. I had no idea how to take down a man who was richer than Midas and totally psychotic.
"Can you make copies of all of this?" Andrew asked. "We need to make sure this information doesn't disappear."
"Already done," I replied. "I have a program on my computer that I created that copies everything I come across to a cloud drive. That way I don't miss anything or lose the information while I'm working."
"Oh, that's a good idea. Do you think I could get a copy of that for my laptop?"
I smiled. "Why don't you bring your laptop over once this is all over and I'll fix you up."
Andrew patted my shoulder. "Thanks, Danny. I'd appreciate that."
"Appreciate what?" Ian asked as he walked in with the others.
Andrew smiled as he turned toward the door. "Danny's going to shoot my laptop up with steroids."
Ian chuckled. "I swear, he's like a geek squad drug dealer. We're all addicted to the crap he gives us."
I'm not sure I would go that far, but I knew my stuff. Speaking off… "I think we're in trouble."
"I know we're in trouble, Danny. Abe's missing and someone is trying to catch you."
"Bigger trouble," I said.
"Much bigger," Andrew added. "Humongous. Like, big bang trouble."
Both of Ian's brown eyebrows lifted. "What kind of trouble?"
"I found Robert Atkins." I almost wished I hadn't. "He likes collecting things no one else has, like shape-shifting ocelots, and since he's uber rich, he can get away with it."
Ian's eyes rounded. "Oh shit."
"He also has a connection to Max."
Ian's gaze snapped to Andrew. "Your ex-agent? That Max?"
Andrew nodded. "According to what Danny found, Atkins paid for Max's defense attorney."
"Why would he do that?"
I snorted again, rather rudely this time, but I was pretty much disgusted with this whole mess. "I'll give you one guess."
"Atkins was involved in Max's slavery ring?"
"I don't know if he was directly involved, but it kind of makes sense that he would be. Not only is he rich, with a lot of really rich friends, but he has ties to Dubai, which we all know has no extradition treaty with the US. If he was working with Max, he could have been supplying slaves for his rich buddies in the Middle East."
Ian plopped down on the edge of Abe's hospital bed as if his legs would no longer hold him up. "We are so fucked."
I smirked. "Yeah, pretty much."
"How are we going to get Abe back and stop this guy?"
"I think we might have a plan for that." Hank glanced at his fellow Marines before looking back at us. "It'll take a lot of courage from all of you, but I have no doubt you can do it. I don't think Atkins had any idea what he was up against when he decided to take on the geek squad."
