Huh?
"Ma'am?"
The woman shook her head. "You have not been doing to your lessons, have you?"
Lessons?
"The spirits gave you a great gift, Daniel. If you do not learn of these gifts, how will you know how to use them?"
Oh crap.
I felt my face drain of color. "Ma'am, I—"
"You shared your gift of healing with my son when you bonded with him, and I thank you for that, but I must insist you complete your lessons. So many lives depend on you and your friends. You cannot disregard the gifts that have been given to you."
I had to be dreaming.
Ouch!
Nope, not dreaming.
"Mrs. Sesay—"
She smiled. "Mama Naiad."
A glint of tears sprang to my eyes. "Mama Naiad, how do you even know about me?"
"My son has talked of you many times. He is quite taken with you." The older woman glanced up toward the ceiling. "And I have listened to the spirits. I know why you are here."
I'd sure like to know that.
"Now, I'm going to go. These trips across the ocean are very tiring. Tell my son I expect the invite to the wedding within a month."
My eyes rounded.
Wedding?
What wedding?
She pressed a kiss to Abe's forehead then walked around the bed to press one to mine. Her brown eyes sparkled as she stared at me. "You're a good boy, Daniel. I'm glad my son found you."
"Yes, ma'am."
"Mama Naiad," she corrected.
I smiled. "Yes, Mama Naiad."
I stood there with that silly grin on my face as Abe's mother disappeared out the door as if she hadn't even been there. I liked her. I was intimidated as hell by her, but I liked her.
I had a lot of questions, though. She seemed to know an awful lot about me, and the fact that I had been turned into an ocelot shifter. How she knew, only Abe could tell me, and he wasn't awake yet.
"Danny?"
I swung around then let out a happy cry. "Abe!"
"Was that my mother?"
"Yeah, she stopped by to see you." I inhaled a shaky breath as I leaned over the man. Tears of relief flooded my eyes. "I'm so glad you're awake. I've been so worried about you."
