Harvey sat forward quickly. "In my parking lot?" When Wilson and Jayden both nodded, Harvey reached for the phone. "Sheriff, this is Harvey. We have a problem down at the bar."
Wilson didn't know what to think when Harvey's eyes rolled and Joey laughed.
"No," Harvey said. "I did not throw someone out the front window again.”
Wilson pulled Jayden closer.
Joey laughed again. "When we met, I had been kidnapped by a biker gang. Harvey bought me from them then tossed the ringleader out the window."
Wilson's stomach clenched. "He bought you?"
"Only to save me. It was the only way to get me away from Razor."
"And where's Razor now?"
"Dead," Harvey snapped as he hung up the phone. "He was shot by the authorities trying to kill me and Joey."
"Good god!"
Joey wagged his eyebrows. "Cade Creek is interesting, huh?"
For such a small town, it really was. "So it seems."
"The sheriff is going to come get the videotape and take a look at your car. He'll need to take a statement from both of you."
"Maybe he can come by the cabin in the morning and get it?" Jayden asked. "Marv thinks we're in here talking to Joey about entertainment for the wedding. If we're in here too long, he's going to know something is up."
"What exactly does this man want from you?" Harvey asked.
"Publicity," Wilson replied. "We came up with the whole wedding thing to throw him off the trail of my son, whose identity cannot go public for his own safety and the safety of others. He has his teeth in the wedding idea now, but he won't be happy with scraps. He wants it all."
Harvey's eyebrows lifted. "So, you're not really getting married then?"
"Oh no, we're getting married," Wilson said quickly. "We've already picked out the rings, got the marriage certificate, planned the wedding and reception. I even changed my will. The wedding is very real."
Jayden shot him a strange look but didn't say anything.
Wilson took that as a win.
"I'll explain things to John and ask him if he can stop by the cabin in the morning. If he can't, he'll probably drop by tonight."
"I'd really appreciate it, Harvey." He stood, shook the man's hand again, then headed for the door.
"I'll walk you out in case this guy is still in the place," Joey said.
"We both will," Harvey said as he got up. "I don't like the idea of my Joey going out there if some maniac is out there."
"Oh, I don't think Marv would ever hurt anyone," Jayden said. "He's just kind of a jerk."
That was an understatement.
"Never underestimate a jerk, Jayden," Joey said. "Some people can surprise you."
"No, I get that. Marv just doesn't strike me as someone who would get his hands dirty. Ricky would, but not Marv. He's more likely to try and take you down with a war of words."
"What about Ricky?" Wilson asked. "Just how dangerous is he?"
"Ricky is a slime-ball. He'd sell his mother for a cup of coffee."
