"Well, I wasn't sure I wanted to stay in the newspaper business anyway."
"I'm sure there's other places around Cade Creek that are hiring," Happy assured him. "We could put the word out."
"I'll find something, Happy. Don't worry."
"Darling? Is there a problem?"
Crap.
Jayden closed his eyes briefly, wishing he were anywhere except where he was, then opened them and turned to look at Wilson. "Happy, Marc, this is Wilson Khor." Jayden swallowed hard. "My fiancé."
The words felt funny in his mouth, yet strangely right.
He had to be losing his mind.
Chapter Twelve
Wilson pulled Jayden close to his side then eyed the two men facing them. Both had their own intimidation factor. One stood nearly half a foot taller than Wilson, and the other one was dressed in a deputy's uniform.
"Is there something we can help you with, Deputy?" he asked. Considering the crap he was going through, he was most worried about the man in uniform. Although he couldn't dismiss a man who stood six feet nine inches tall.
"We just stopped to chat with Jayden," the man replied.
Wilson held out his hand to the deputy. "Senator Wilson Khor II."
"Deputy Marc Walker," the man replied as he shook his hand. "And this is my husband, Happy."
Happy?
"Happy is the man I was doing that diamond story on," Jayden said. "His grandfather stashed a wealth of diamonds in their house then died before he could do anything with them. Happy inherited them."
Wilson glanced at Jayden. "That story was real?"
Jayden glared. "Very."
Huh.
"I wasn't sure what to do with the money we got for the diamonds my grandfather hid," Happy said. "So I created a community committee to help me choose where to donate the money. I didn't want just one person deciding where it was supposed to go. So many people need it, you know."
Wilson started to smile. "You must know my son, Will."
Happy's smile brightened. "Will and Hector? That Will?"
"That's him."
"Oh yes, they helped me when—"
"Happy," the deputy warned.
"Oh…uh…" Happy shot Marc a look. "Well, they helped me and our daughter when we were in trouble."
Wilson was pretty sure he knew what the man had been about to say. Considering Happy was talking about donating large sums of money, Wilson suspected he was one of the underground's benefactors.
"Well, we need to get going," Wilson said. "We need to go to the courthouse, and then we have an appointment with a local lawyer."
Marc frowned. "Is everything okay?"
"Oh yes," Wilson replied. "Jayden and I are getting married this weekend, and I need to change my will."
