Will wished he knew if that was true or not.

Hector flexed his arm and grimaced as he slowly tore the tape off holding a small cotton ball in place. He hated needles, but he hated peeling off medical tape even more. He imagined that it felt much like getting waxed did, although he couldn’t be positive. It wasn’t something he’d ever do.

He lifted his head and glanced toward the door he had just exited when it opened again. “You doing okay there, Will?”

The man was staring at the ball of cotton on his arm like it was a snake about to bite him.

“Why can’t we just hold the cotton ball there?” Will asked. “Why do they feel the need to tape it into place? I’ll lose half my body hair tearing this darn thing off.”

Hector chuckled. “Want me to do it? I promise I won’t make it hurt.”

Will’s mouth was hanging slightly open when he glanced up. “Okay.”

Hector grabbed the edge of the tape with one hand and wrapped the other one around the nape of Will’s neck. He grinned at the surprised look that came over Will’s face as he pulled him in for a kiss that he hoped was hot enough to curl the man’s toes…and make him forget about the tape.

As he thrust his tongue past Will’s lips, he quickly yanked the tape off Will’s arm. The man gave a little jerk. Hector reached down and squeezed Will’s butt to give him something else to think about. Will moaned and melted into him.

By the time Hector lifted his head, Will’s face was flushed and his eyes were glassy. Hector grinned. It was a good look on Will.

“Take me home and pound me into the mattress now,” Will whispered. “You promised.”

Hector hadn’t exactly promised, but he wasn’t averse to the idea. He smiled at Will before wrapping an arm around him. “All right, tesoro.”

He just had to figure out how to get them home.

Hector headed them back toward the emergency room. If Terry and Jonny were still there, they might be able to give them a ride or at least maybe some news about what was going on. Hector knew he could call the sheriff directly and get an update, but he didn’t want to interrupt the man if he was busy.

When they reached the emergency room, Hector couldn’t spot the two paramedics. He walked over to the check-in desk. “Sammy, have you seen Terry or Jonny? I was hoping to get a ride back to the fire station with them.”

“Sorry, Hector,” Sammy replied. “They got sent out on a call. They’ll be back, but I couldn’t tell you when.”

“Damn.”

Sammy’s eyebrows lifted. “Problem?”

“We need to figure out how to get home.”

Sammy dug into his pocket then tossed Hector a set of keys. “You can take my truck.”

“How will you get home?” Hector asked.

Sammy shrugged. “I’ll catch a ride with Hank.”

“Are you sure?”

Sammy smiled. “Yes.”

“Okay, I’ll have it back to you in the morning.”

Sammy waved a hand at him. “Don’t worry about it.”

Sammy made it sound like it was no big deal, but it was. For Hector at least. He wouldn’t forget this. “Thanks, Sammy.”

“Anytime.”

Hector walked out of the emergency room with Will and scanned the parking lot for Sammy’s truck. If he remembered correctly, it was a blue truck, late model. It was sturdy, but not fancy. Of course, that wasn’t saying much. Most people in Cade Creek owned trucks. It was easier to get around in during the winter months.
