Gabriel chuckled. “Exactly like this.”
“See? I can be taught.”
“You’re willing to listen,” Gabriel said. “That’s a plus.”
“Does that mean I still have to sleep on the couch?” He really didn’t want to sleep on the couch, not when his mate was tucked up in his bed.
“No, not this time.”
Chay winced because that sounded a lot like there might be a future time. That wasn’t good. He was starting to get the idea that his mate was going to keep him on a very short leash. He was kind of surprised he didn’t have more of a problem with that. He wasn’t known for allowing other people to tell him what to do.
“You mentioned steak?”
Chay chuckled at the hopefulness in Gabriel’s eyes. He pressed a kiss to Gabriel’s lips then moved over to the refrigerator. He had been expecting Dom for dinner, and god knew that man ate a lot, so there were four steaks thawing in the fridge. If he added some eggs and hash browns, there might be enough for all of them to have breakfast.
He waved his hand toward the small dining table by the window. “Go sit down while I make your breakfast.”
It didn’t take long to get everything cooking or for the smell of food to draw Dom and Aldrik into the room. True to his word, he had barely cooked the steak, just kind of warmed it on each side before placing it on a plate along with the eggs and hash browns. He smiled when Gabriel’s eyes rounded when he set the plate down in front of him.
Chay made plates up for Dom and Aldrik, but held off on putting the last steak on his own plate. He wanted to make sure Gabriel had enough to eat. He knew after fighting and then shifting, the man would be starving. When Gabriel finished his food and looked as if he wanted to lick the plate, Chay slid the last steak in front of him.
He smiled when Gabriel dug in. The warmth that filled him knowing he had provided for his mate was not unexpected. That’s what mates did, and he couldn’t think of anything he wouldn’t do for his mate.
Chay glanced toward the front of the house when the doorbell rang. The tension in the air suddenly became thick and cloying.
“Are you expecting anybody?” Dom asked.
Chay shook his head. “No, but it could be anyone.”
He might have said the words. That didn’t mean he believed them. Too much crazy shit had happened in the last twenty-four hours. Chay wouldn’t be surprised to find little green men on his front porch.
“Well, are you going to answer it?” Dom asked when the doorbell rang again.
Chay really didn’t want to, but whoever it was didn’t seem to want to go away. He pushed away from the counter and walked out of the kitchen. He could hear chairs scrape behind him and knew the others were following him.
When he reached the front door, Chay drew in a calming breath and then pulled the door open. He stared for a moment. He did not recognize this guy at all. “Can I help you?”
“I’m trying to find a man named Gabriel Pantarius. The guy down at your motorcycle shop said he might be here.”
Chay’s eyes narrowed. “Why?”
“Please, it’s very important that I—”
Chay felt movement at his back and smelled his mate.
“Travis?”
