I smiled. “Anytime, Eddie.”

“You and Sal didn’t have to—”

I put my hand up. “Stop right there.”

“But—”

“You’d do it for me. Lyn would do it for me. We would do it for you.” I made a spin in the air with my hand. “It all comes around eventually.”

Eddie chuckled. “I never knew you believed in karma.”

I snorted. “Have you met my husband?”

Eddie’s eyebrows snapped together. “Yeah.”

“You don’t think I had to do something really good to get a hunk like that?”

Like over the last ten lifetimes.

“And you have to remember that I survived getting crushed by an elephant. Either my karma is really good”—we were talking rescuing orphans and puppies from a burning building good—“or my guardian angel is working overtime, and in that case, that man needs a raise.”

I was sure of it.

Eddie chuckled again, but I could see his eyes beginning to droop. “Get some rest, Eddie. I’ll get coffee and pastries from the bakery down the street in the morning.”

They were Sal’s favorite.

“Night, Lany.”

“Night, Eddie.”

I stepped out of the guest room and closed the door behind me. Before heading toward the bedroom I shared with Sal, I turned off all the lights and grabbed the twin walkie-talkie connected to Eddie’s. Wouldn’t make sense to give him one then not have the other one close by to answer if he needed me.

Duh.

I walked into the bedroom but paused two steps in. I had expected to find Sal tucked up in bed waiting for me.

He wasn’t.

In fact, I couldn’t see him at all.

“Sal?”

“Si, amore mio.”

I admit it. I squeaked as I jumped around.

And then I groaned.

“I’ve been waiting for you,caro.”

Sal’s beautiful copper-colored eyes were filled with heat as he gazed down at me. “Ho bisogno di essere dentro di te.”

I swallowed tightly.

God, I loved this man.

I had wanted Sal from the moment I’d first laid eyes on him. Things between us had been intense almost from the moment we met. I had serious doubts that I would ever get enough of my handsome Italian SWAT officer.
