Savage yelps like he’s hurt, clutching his face. “Nooooo!”
“We need to go, now,” Lyle grits out. “We have to take both of them.”
“No.” Ghoul shows us his fangs. “I’ll take her for now.”
Aurelia sighs. “Alright.”
Ghouls’ fangs glint in the moonlight. “I’ll make sure she comes, boys, don’t worry.”
Black shadows scoop them up like gathering clouds, and then they’re gone as if they were never here at all. I clench my teethtogether in dismay. He still has his orders to kill her. My regina knows how to look after herself, but that doesn’t abate my fury.
“Problem!” Savage says, pointing to the incoming trucks. Titus Clawson and a team of felines are currently zipping towards us on the back of trucks.
“Xander, shift!” I command.
Suddenly, a humming breaks through the air, and the protective dome reappears, shining bright blue above us. A mad cackle sounds as Titus, standing on the open back of the Jeep with a gun in hand, points a fat finger our way. “You’re not going anywhere, fuckers!”
Chapter 76
Lyle
My animus is roaring inside of me, and I won’t even bother placating him. We have every right to be angry when it should have been our cock fixed in our regina’s pussy and not the enemy’s. The fact that he’s taken her away is an utter failure on all our parts. That Titus is now whooping his way toward us is a further failure. We should have been out of here by now.
“Lyle,” Scythe growls, gesturing towards the oncoming military vehicles. “Focus.”
I growl in reply, locking in and focusing on the truck. I reach a hand out, sending a telekinetic blast towards them. The vehicle rocks, losing speed, but there are no fewer than six felines in there, staring me down and counter-acting against my power.
“Not today, Pardalia!” Titus roars back.
“There’s too many of them,” I say, gritting my teeth because it’s not in my nature to run.
“It’s too small for me to shift,” Xander says, summoning his fire whip. But they’re too far, and now the convoy of trucks splits, three vehicles driving side by side, loaded guns aimed at us.
Savage turns and sprints past me towards shelter behind the warehouses. “Run, everyone!”
“Run where?” Xander snorts, turning and sprinting after him. “We can’t get through the dome anyway.”
“The second warehouse,” Scythe says, turning to follow. “They can’t get their trucks in there.”
Someone shoots, the bullet missing my foot by an inch, and I scoop everyone up with a hand of my power, thrusting us all behind the second warehouse. Engines roar at our tails as Savage opens the big metal door, leaping inside. Xander and Scythe follow, pressing themselves against the wall. I slam the door shut once I’m inside. We want to bottleneck them inside for a fairer fight on foot. Even without weapons, the four of us will then stand a chance.
“Titus is hanging back,” Xander says, using his sight to look through the door. “He’s sending the others through first. Scythe? Get the second guy.”
“On it.” Scythe closes his eyes, feeling out the electrical impulses of those outside.
Xander lashes a fire whip around the handle of the door, making the metal glow. A pained scream sounds from the other side as the man who went for the handle gets third-degree burns upon touching it.
The door rattles on its hinges, and Xander flies out of the way just as it explodes inwards under telekinesis. Felines leap over the fallen males, guns first, and open fire. Xander and I lash out, waving the bullets away as fast as we can while Scythe squeezes hearts, dropping those behind, and Savage knocks out the one in the lead with a punch to the head and grabs his rifle.
A bullet hits me on the shoulder, and the blow forces me to take a step back with a grunt. It triggers me to shift, and I allow my animus to take over. He announces himself with a roar, but now Savage is shouting, wrestling with another rifle. Powerthrums through the air as my telekinesis meets five other feline powers. It makes the air charged, dampening the sound and forces.
“Fall back!” Titus shouts from what sounds like far away. “Clawson beasts, fall back!”
Telekinesis takes the beasts wrestling with our powers, and Savage has no choice but to let his enemy go as they are whisked away. “Come back!” Savage shouts through the door. “Come back, you fuckers—” Something skids through the door and Xander recognises the grenade before anyone else does, shoving it back out the door.
Except it’s joined by five others.
“Run!” Scythe roars, possibly for the first time in his life.
