Gabe gritted his teeth.

“You shouldn’t be worried about Ivy. You have to get on a plane in a few hours. You should be napping or whatever you do before a job.”

“Yeah, I will. I just don’t know where Ivy is at the moment, and she’s not answering her cell.”

“You know Ivy’s unpredictable. Don’t worry about her. You just make sure you’re on that plane. Chantal put in a good word with her father for you.”

“I won’t let you down,” Gabe said.

“That’s right, bro. Remember who got you this gig and gave you a second chance. Talk to you later.”

“Bye.” Gabe threw his phone across the counter. Ivy was a lot of things. Unpredictable wasn’t one of them.

“He lied?”

“Yeah. Why?”

“I don’t know, but it is suspicious.”

Nick got up from the couch and, from his jacket pocket, brought out his tablet, the one with his father’s company logo.

“Do you know Cole’s plate number?”

Gabe ran his hand through his hair and reeled off the numbers. “You’re going to try and find him?”

“You didn’t tell him that a neighbour saw him with Ivy. You’re suspicious too.”

Gabe thumbed his fist on the counter. Damn it, why couldn’t he have a brother that gave a shit about him?

“Yeah, I am.” Gabe rattled off the plate number, and Nick typed furiously.

“What are you looking at?”

“Traffic cameras.”

Gabe whistled but didn’t ask how. Nick’s tech skills had saved their bacon lots of times.

“Here.” Nick showed him the tablet, a map on the bottom screen with a picture of Cole’s car.

“Is that the turnoff to the airport?”

“Yep.”

“Why is he going there?”

“I don’t know,” Nick mumbled. “What’s Ivy’s number?”

Gabe punched it in while Nick opened another screen, typed in long segments of code, and cursed in French under his breath.

“What?”

“Her signal died at the airport.”

“What are they doing there?”

“I don’t know, but let’s go get your girl.”

“This has to be a misunderstanding.” But his mouth went dry, the back of his neck hot.
