“Oh, no worries.” Nick scratched the excited pup behind the ears. “You’re such a good puppy.”
Gabe rolled his eyes. His friend needed a pet of his own. Badly.
“Hey, I never knew Cole Arthur was your brother,” the woman said.
“Yep.”
“He was so nice to give me his autograph.” The woman grinned at him.
“He was here?”
“Yeah, earlier this afternoon, he was going somewhere with your girlfriend. He also liked Hughes, here.”
“Who couldn’t like Hughes?” Nick said, scratching the dog’s chin.
“What time was this?” Gabe asked.
“I walked him just before I left, so about two o’clock in the afternoon?”
“Thanks,” Gabe said.
“No worries! Hey, do you think you can ask him to sign a jersey for me?”
“Sure.” Gabe smiled tightly.
“Okay! Come on, Hughes, let’s go!”
“Bye, doggy!” Nick said. “What? We were never allowed pets growing up.”
Gabe shook his head. “You’re not winning the contest.”
Punching in Ivy’s number again, they entered the elevator.
“Still not answering.”
“Call Cole.”
“Yeah, guess I have to. Quinn said he saw her around noon. Ivy said she had some errands to do. I don’t know where she went with Cole.”
Entering the condo, Gabe looked around. “Her keys aren’t here. And the French press is still in the sink from this morning.”
“So?”
“She wasn’t home for a long time.”
“Maybe they went shopping? Something to do with the wedding?” Nick shrugged.
“Guess I have to call him.”
“I’ll just make myself comfortable.” Nick stretched out his feet on the sectional. “You complain about downtime, but I could use a bit of a hit.”
Gabe dialled his brother.
“Gabe?”
“Hey, Cole. Is Ivy with you?”
“Why would she be with me?” Cole said.
