“You bring out the worst in me! You could give a womananything, you emotionally stunted juvenile,” Logan said, his fist drawing back.

Erik quickly stepped in and grabbed Logan’s arm. “Don’t, Logan.”

“Enough! I can’t take this,” Harper said, distress threaded through her voice.

“Harper, you know how he gets before a job,” Xander said.

“I didn’t know you were there, Kitten,” Logan said, taking a step towards her. She took a step back, shaking her head. “This is too much. You are arguing over me. I didn’t want this.”

“Wait, Angel, I’ll send Carli to take you home.”

“Come back to my place,” Logan reached for her.

“No. I can’t be fought over like this. You both mean the world to me. I can’t do this,” Harper said. She backed away, and Xander watched her as she grabbed her bag and ran out the door. Xander wanted to go after her but knew it was the wrong thing to do. She needed space.

“Harper!” Logan ran after her, coming back in a moment later.

“The elevator closed just before I got her.”“She needs space.”“No, she needs reassurance” Logan paced in front of Xander’s desk.

Xander ignored him and punched in Janette’s number. “What do you need, Mr. Montague?”“I need to know where Harper is at all times, get a detail on her as quick as you can. She’s just left Axis Management.”“I’m free, I’ll find her and take one of the new hires with me,” Janette said.

Xander shook his head. He had good people and half the time he didn’t deserve them. “Thanks, Janette.”

“Why do you even need a detail on her?”

“That’s her story to tell, Logan. Maybe she doesn’t trust you enough with it.”

Logan glared at him. “Last job, Xander, and I’m out. Harper agreed to wear my collar.”

“Did she? I didn’t see it around her neck.”

Logan flipped him off and stalked out of the office.

Xander shook his head and turned to Erik. “I know you would have preferred to be on that job.”

Erik shrugged. “I go where you tell me to, boss. No matter what comes of your investigation, they are always going to blame me for Jordan’s death.”

“It’s not your fault,” Xander said.

“That’s what I tell myself. What do you need?”

“I need you to follow Dorian Martin. I want to know if there is any link between him and Theo Densen,” Xander said. “Theo would destroy me if he could.”

“All right,” Erik said. He gave him a salute and headed out.

Xander sighed. He and Theo used to be good friends until his sister Olivia was paralyzed in a car accident that Xander had caused.

He sighed. They all had their battles. It was what they did with them that mattered.

CHAPTER SEVENTEEN - HARPER

Itwasridiculousthatshe had nowhere to go.

Harper went through the possibilities of where she could escape to. She needed space to sort out her head and her heart, and with the migraine pounding at her temples; she needed to find somewhere quick.

When she was around the corner from Axis Management, she called Gardenia.

“Did you decide who to schedule an interview with?”
