“You truly believe the prison is that bad?”

“Yes, I do,” Cally observed.

“I’ll check into it.”

“I believe you will be shocked by what you see.”

He hoped she was wrong because even bad guys didn't deserve to be abused that badly. Some of them might deserve to lose their lives, but not to be tortured or abused.Maybe the best thing he could do would be to send someone in as a guard and find out what was really going on there.Diego came to mind because he trusted him. He'd add that to his To Do List because he had a lot to do right now.

It was a relief when they finally made it home and could go into the dining room to eat. They'd skipped lunch, and that was never a good thing for a wolf to be hungry. It didn't take them long to eat their food, and they didn't talk while they were eating because they were so hungry.Carlos had to admit he didn't really feel like talking, and all he wanted to do was hold his mate and sleep. It wasn't that he would say no to sex if she wanted it, but it didn't seem as important today as just getting the comfort of having her lie in his arms.

Both cleaned up and got ready for bed, and then they did exactly what he had imagined they would. They lay in each other's arms, and it took them no time to go to sleep. That was no surprise because it had been a hard day.Sometimes comfort and rest were more important than making love.It seemed like they had hardly slept at all when it was time to get up.Times like these were what made a person feel like they had really earned their vacation when it came around. As much as he would have liked to stay in bed with his mate, he knew that he would have to get up and take care of the business.Carlos would admit that he had not realized how much work this business would be.That Tyne had many businesses just like this, and in the early days of his business, he had run them all personally, and it was amazing.

Today was no different from the last few days; they ate breakfast and headed to work.It made it tougher because he didn't know whether they would have trouble, and they had to be constantly watchful. This turned out to be a good day; they worked through their entire list without any issues. That good luck lasted through the week, and now it was the weekend, and he hoped that they would have some peace and quiet. It turned out that wasn't going to be the case because they had issues at two of their locations, and they only had one person on standby. He told the person to wait until he sent someone to go with them, and then he and Cally would take the other location.

To have two locations go out at the same time was extremely suspicious. His immediate thoughts were that something had to be done at those locations to set a trap.Cally was ready in moments when he told her what was going on.To get into his truck, fully loaded with weapons, and head to the second location. It had been decided that non-lethal methods needed to be used so that there would be prisoners to question.Mainly stunners were used to knock the enemy out until they could be restrained. The first thing to do would be to locate whoever had set the trap. That would be done by parking a distance away and trekking in.

Once parked, they left the truck and headed towards the location. They were wolves, so they used their senses once they got closer to the location and could tell there were people hidden behind the house, and he would assume there were people inside the house as well. Those behind the house needed to be taken out first. It was ridiculously easy to sneak up on them and stun them, then restrain them and use tape to keep their mouths shut. The back door had been left unlocked, so they would go in that way and see if they could surprise whoever was inside. They entered the kitchen, but no one was there, so they moved through the house and found what they were looking for in one of the bedrooms.Carlos had to admit that the look of surprise on the faces of these racist humans was hilarious just before they stood. It was lucky indeed that these guys were so poor at the job they had been hired for.

This time, he intended to keep them and take them back to his pack, where he would search them to see what they carried, question them, and decide what to do with them himself. If nothing else, it would be a good experience for him and some of his guards. The prisoners were loaded, the homeowners released, and the security system reset. He now had two concerns: his prisoners and what had happened with the other team at the first location. He'd expected to hear by now since he had sent one of his best guards to assist the security specialist who was on duty for the night.

If he didn't hear by the time he got his prisoners home, he would send a team to check on the first location and those who had been sent there. That was what he ended up doing while he questioned the prisoners he had brought in.

“Who are you and what do you want with me?”Carlos asked.

“We know what you are and we don't like it.”The guy replied.

“What's your name and what do you think I am?”

“I'm Jerry, and you are a monster.”

“You don't act very scared for someone facing a monster.”

“What do you mean?”Jerry asked. It was clear that he had not thought things through very well.

“Monsters eat people.”Carlos offered.

“Not all monsters eat people. Some of them try to pretend they’re people.”

“If I were a monster and you already knew I was a monster, why would I bother to pretend?”

It was clear that Jerry was getting nervous now.His pulse rate had gone up, and he was starting to sweat.

“They said you wouldn't hurt us,” Jerry admitted.

“Monsters that won’t hurt their enemies. That’s crazy.”

“When you put it like that, it does sound wrong.”

“Someone has set you up,” Cally observed.

Jerry collapsed in his chair.“They said you weren’t human and that you were stealing all the best women. You were taking over our government, and all your kind were rich. It’s why we can’t get jobs, and even when we have jobs, we can never get ahead.I got laid off from my job, and I haven't been able to get another one.I have a master's degree in computer science, and it makes no sense that I can't get a job.”

Carlos had to agree that it made no sense.“Are you any good at your job?”

“I think I am, and I was making a lot of money until the company made cutbacks. They seem to be making plenty of money. After I got laid off, no one seems to want to hire me.Those other guys seem to have the same problem.”Jerry admitted.

“How did you find the job of harassing my business?”He asked.
