“What?”
“Damn you for making me like you a little bit more.” I open my eyes to see the smallest smile on his face.
He might not look like your typical Omega, but he sure acts like one. He’s kind, soft hearted, and so damn considerate.
“Alright, here is what we’re going to do. You wanna win me over?” He gives me a firm nod. “I meant what I said before. You have to get the approval of my Alphas. If you can get Will and Ian on board, then so am I.”
“Really?” His eyes light up again like a damn puppy’s.Why does he have to be so cute?“What about Nick?”
“We’ll deal with him when we come to it,” I tell him. “But Tucker, be warned, he’s a hard guy. He’s not soft or sweet. Don’t expect rainbows and sunshine. He’s wicked, in more ways than one.” I wink and his cheeks pinken again. “Just do what I do, don’t back down, don’t let him walk all over you. Give it to him as good as you get. You might just like it as much as I do.”
“Okay,” he mumbles. “If you say so.”
“You sweet, sweet boy.” I reach up and pat his cheek. “You have no idea what you're in for.”
“You’re kind of freaking me out.”
“Good. Be freaked out. At least you won’t be blindsided like I was. Now what do you say, Tucker, are you up for the challenge?”
“Yes,” he replies without hesitation. “Whatever it takes to get you to accept me.”
Damn this man. The last thing I need is another person to worry about. There's something about Tucker that makes me want to wrap him up in my arms and protect him from the world, even if he looks like he wouldn’t need it.
I can’t believe I’m doing this. I’m crazy. So fucking crazy. But hey, crazy is my new normal, so why would this change anything? “Alright then.” I hold out my hand. “We have a deal. Welcome to the pack, Tucker. You’re in for one hell of a ride.”
Chapter 20
Nova
Operation Get-my-pack-to-like-Tucker officially starts today.
It’s been a few days since the talk on the beach with Tucker. Finding out that Nick is his scent match was a hard pill to swallow. Nick and I still have a rocky relationship. Now throw in this new Omega? I don’t like it, but that’s just how our world works. I give Tucker props for not going behind my back and trying to take my man.
He says he likes me too. And I’m not going to lie, the man is growing on me.
We exchanged numbers and have been texting. He checks in on me, wishes me good morning and good night, and has asked me a million and one questions to get to know me.
I’ve hit him back with the same questions. Now I know his favorite food is pizza, he likes the color blue, he enjoys horror movies, loves amusement parks, and enjoys concerts. He said he likes country music, so he lost a point there, but he enjoys Ashnikko, so he gained it back.
I told Tucker we needed to get my Alphas on board with this plan because I’m starting to feel guilty. I feel like I’m cheating on them in a way. And, as someone who’s been cheated on, I’d never want to make anyone feel that way.
Pulling into the parking lot of Will’s shop, I park the truck next to Tucker’s car. He’s off today, so no squad car, and it’s better that way. Having a cop as a member of our pack is going to be really weird seeing how my Alphas are criminals. Plus, they kill people.
I’m not sure how it's going to work. I know Nick will make sure Tucker doesn’t get the chance to betray us. Do I think hewould kill him? No. Do I think he would keep him locked up on the compound just to be sure? Without a doubt.
My phone dings, letting me know I have a notification. Checking my phone, I laugh, smiling as I shake my head. This man.
Tucker: I think I left my oven on. I have to go back home and check.
Nova: Stop being a little pussy and let’s go in there. Better to get this over with.
Tucker: He’s going to hate me. And then he’s going to tell me to never see you again. And then I’m going to die alone.
I snort out a laugh, looking over at Tucker. He’s looking at me through the car window with big puppy-dog eyes.
Smiling wider, I text him back.
Nova: Such a drama queen. Don’t make me drag your ass in there.
