“Thank you, Tally,” I said, because it was just easier. “How was the rest of your night?”

Her eyes lit up. “Oh, I just had a fun little shibari lesson with a very attractive woman. She put a harness on me, and I had to bite my lip bloody so I didn’t say anything embarrassing. And then once she let me out, I was so dopey that I ended up coming home. Still a good night overall.”

Tally was a big fan of restraints, and while I thought they were interesting, the idea of having my movement restricted made me feel like I couldn’t breathe. Not my kink.

“Sounds good anyway,” I said through another yawn.

“Yeah, yeah, rub your amazing sex in my face, whatever. What’s the plan now? Repeat or move on?”

Wasn’t that the question? As far as I knew, it was one-time situation. In spite of her absolutely blowing my mind multiple times, she didn’t seem to want a repeat, which led me to believe it was more intense for me than it was for her. Which was fine.

Totally fine.

Completely FINE.

Fine, fine, fineeeeee.

It was just… I’d have to see her in the elevator and if we had a fire alarm and maybe in the parking lot and I’d have to remember that look on her face as she came. I’d remember the way she tasted. I’d hear the sounds she’d made. Last night was burned into my brain and nothing short of a severe head injury was going to erase her.

I could never have her again and was that better than not having had anything at all? I wasn’t sure.

“Babe, are you there?” Tally brought me back down to earth.

“Yeah, just thinking.”

“Looks painful. Don’t do that again.”

We both laughed, but it was interrupted by my stomach growling.

“I’m starving. I need to eat something.”

Tally’s eyes lit up. “What if I came over and brought you food and you gave me all the details you didn’t want to give me just now? Let me live vicariously!” I guess it was only fair because she’d told me all her hookup details when I was in my single era and not ready for them yet.

I sighed heavily. “Fine. But I want cheeseburgers and truffle fries.” That meant stopping at the fancy burger place.

“Ugh, you’re pushing it. See you in like forty-five.”

Tally arrived almost an hour later, and I’d almost drifted off to sleep again, but Dandy had woken me up by screaming in my ear for more food.

“I had to stop myself from knocking on her door,” Tally said when I let her in.

“Shhh,” I said, glancing down the hall. “Don’t say that too loud.”

Mal’s apartment was just…right there. The other side of the wall against my bed was her wall.

Tally rolled her eyes and started unpacking the food as I got the plates.

Dandy came over to investigate and Tally picked her up and snuggled her while I got us set up in the living room. I’d finally changed out of my clothes from last night into a comfortable T-shirt and sweats. Tally wore a similar outfit.

Once we sat on the couch, I turned on one of our favorite reality shows we’d seen a million times on low volume.

Tally just waited. She knew I’d crack. I always did.

“I’m afraid I made a mistake.”

“Are we talking ordered the wrong burger, or are we talking about the sex?”

“The sex. Not that I regret it, but… I don’t know if I’m cut out for this hookup thing. Because Tally? Holy fuck, the sex wasamazing. Like, I can’t believe how amazing. Alina and I had some good times, and she helped me figure some things out, but this was on a whole other level. Jesus, I sound like I’m in love or something, but that’s not it. I just think that it meant more to me than it did to her and that’s a new feeling for me.” I wasn’t a fan of it, now that I’d had several hours to sit with everything.
