“Were you serious about the cheesecake, or not? Because I’ve been thinking about it since yesterday.”
I grinned up at her. “It’s in my locker. I even brought you a fork so you didn’t have to eat it with your hands.”
She snorted. “Good thing. I’ll be so hungry that I might have done that.”
“Well, now I’m thinking about hiding the fork so I can witness that.”
Her eyes narrowed. “I’ll find a fork anyway. I’m not eating cheesecake with my hands because it would amuse you. I’m not a raccoon.”
No, she wasn’t. She was cuter.
Seeing and talking to her again was making me lightheaded. I’d put my head between my knees and start breathing deeply if I wasn’t already sitting down on my mat.
“Now there’s a Halloween costume idea, though. Sexy raccoon.”
She could wear a little mask and a brown-and-black dress or something. And gloves for her little paws.
Lea laughed. “Why does it have to be a sexy raccoon?”
The answer was obvious. “Because it’s Halloween.”
She shook her head and then seemed to realize that she had a Pilates class to teach.
“I’m not dressing up as a sexy raccoon,” she hissed at me before heading to the front of the room and introducing herself so she could start class.
She’d make one hell of a sexy raccoon though.
Chapter Fifteen
Lea
Vail’s commentabout the sexy raccoon costume kept popping into my head while I was teaching, and I almost laughed at least four times during the class. I ended up having to turn my potential giggles into coughs. One of my students even offered me a cough drop from her bag, it got so bad. I sucked on it and tried to get my act together.
“And give yourselves a hand for showing up today! Just as a reminder, I’m Lea and I teach Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturday mornings, and I hope you all have a beautiful rest of your day. Thank you!”
Phew. Made it. Cheesecake time. My mouth had been watering for it since last night.
Vail waited for me on her mat as I said goodbye to everyone and started cleaning up the room.
“Need any help?” she asked, moving aside so I could quickly mop the floor.
“No, I’ve got this.”
She scooted to the door and I could feel her eyes tracking all of my movements. It made me blush and be more aware of what I was doing. She hadn’t brought up anything from last night and I wondered if she would.
Part of me wanted to just…get it out in the open and ask her why we hadn’t kissed. But then she might give me an answer I didn’t want to hear. Sometimes it was better not knowing.
“Do you want your cheesecake now, or after you change?” she asked me. This was so nice. I’d never had anyone bring me food after teaching before. It was like being spoiled.
“Yeah, I think I want to change first. And I’d rather not eat it in the locker room.” Even though I was ravenous, I did have standards.
Vail nodded. “You’ve got it. I’ll change and have it ready for you.”
The promise of cheesecake definitely made me hustle faster in the locker room than it normally would have, and I got my act together in record time to find Vail holding out a container for me.
“You are so heart eyes right now,” she said, laughing. “Come on.”
There were a few couches by the front door for people to sit and wait or linger after class, so we sat next to each other and she handed over the container and a plastic fork.
