“That you like driving, overpaying at restaurants, and drinking coffee that’s supposedly from heaven.”
I laughed.
“Put down boating. And tennis.”
Isabella lifted her head.
“You play tennis?”
With a slight grimace, I nodded.
“At the country club. Oh, hey, we should do doubles with my brother and his girlfriend. That’s casual, right? For your interview thing. I can teach you a few moves, but I can probably beat them solo, so it would work.”
She nodded her head.
“How old is your brother?”
You can do this, Liam,I thought.Just keep it short and to the point.
“Oh, um, twenty. His name is Richard. Right now, he’s in college about an hour away. He and his girlfriend Alison have an apartment off campus. But usually, he comes home one weekend a month. I’ll find out when he’s in town and set something up.”
“Perfect. Thank you. Any other siblings I should know about?”
My heart constricted. I needed to change the subject. Quickly.
“What are your hobbies?”
“I don’t have time or money for hobbies.”
With a sigh, I shook my head.
“For real? You must have something you like to do.”
“I like bowling. Marco and I used to go on the weekends. They do this glow-in-the-dark bowling thing at the alley near my house. My dad actually let me stay out past my curfew for it since it started so late. Oh, and most of the drama club go because of karaoke. I don’t know them, but some of them have really good voices.”
Marco really was all over her life, but I wrote bowling down and then putwatching Formula One racingdown next to it. She craned her neck to see what I wrote, and I pulled it against me to annoy her. Isabella’s brow furrowed as she tried to think.
“I really don’t have anything else.”
We were, in a word, pathetic as far as hobbies went. Isabella had finished her meal and I was ready for school time to be over and cuddle time to begin.
“Netflix time.”
She didn’t argue for once and tucked all her papers back into their folder. We tossed off our shoes and I smiled.
“Do you want to be the big spoon or the little one?”
“Little. But I’m an equal opportunity spooner, so next week we can switch it up.”
Laughing, I tossed open the covers and we both crawled into bed. Isabella let out a moan like she had actually just gone to heaven. As she settled on her side, I frowned and got back up.
“What’s wrong?”
“It’s too bright.”
I closed some curtains and then lowered the light. There we go. Perfect cuddle conditions.Crossing to my book bag, I grabbed my phone, something I actually had started using less of since Isabella entered my life. I set an alarm for an hour before her curfew.
“What are you doing?”
