Did they really not have a simple thing like Netflix? Then I remembered she said no phones and no computer. Most likely, they didn’t pay for the internet.Stop judging her,I noted to myself.
“I do.”
We had just pulled into the parking lot of the coffee shop when I realized why she had asked. Maybe I could help her too. This whole time I kept thinking about how Isabella may be the key to helping me start over. It never occurred to me that I could help her in ways as well. Sadly, helping people was not natural for me. Well, the old me. This was the new me.
“We can schedule time in to watch the Formula One series if you want. It’s on my watch list, but I haven’t gotten around to it.”
If I thought she was happy when the wind had been in her face, this was beyond that. She actually threw her arms around me.
“Can we please? I feel silly and ridiculous, but I mean, we are stuck together for the next few months. We may as well enjoy it. You just said you planned on watching the series anyways. But I’ll supply the food, as long as you like Italian. Since I sort of just invited myself over and pretty much Italian is the only thing I can afford, since it’s free.”
For someone who normally just blended in, she was surprisingly energetic. Also, she had such a positive spirit. My friends—well, my old friends—had everything anyone could want, and all we did was sit around and bitch about something. Everything was so negative. I wouldn’t return to being that person. Isabella had nothing and so everything she had seemed to mean so much more. That’s what I wanted.
The cost of learning to appreciate the little things: one hour with Isabella Bianco.
Chapter 4
Week1–Monday
Isabella
Liam was going to be a challenge. Although we had three months to learn about each other’s lives, I was already puzzled by him. Something told me three months wouldn’t be enough. He could have anything he wanted, which, in my experience, meant he should be the stuck-up, entitled rich boy I had expected him to be. Yet, he wasn’t. Not really.
We found a nice cozy couch in the corner of the coffee shop. I know, how posh is a coffee shop that has couches. While I tried to find a comfortable position, Liam pulled out a laptop from his book bag and set it on the table in front of us.
“Hello! Welcome to a Drop from Heaven. My name is Amanda, and I will be your guide to the heavens today. What angelic drink can I get you both?”
Yes… the place was called a Drop from Heaven, and yes, it was heavenly-themed. Right up to the little half-naked cherubs on the walls. If the chair beneath me didn’t feel like an actual cloud, I would have bolted the minute we stepped in.
As the bright-eyed face of Amanda blinked at us, I stared at the menu. Liam took it away from me and whispered, “Do you want hot or cold?”
I frowned.
“Hot. Cold coffee is weird.”
He rolled his eyes and then turned his attention to our heavenly guide. Amanda was clearly not immune to how attractive Liam was. She was equally as beautiful and, with her rosy cheeks, she actually looked a bit like an angel.
“I’ll have a Pearly Gate and…”
He looked at me for a moment, head tilted before continuing, “She will have a Heart of Gold.”
Amanda smiled brightly.
“With or without a dollop of joy?”
Liam’s voice grew all soft and warm.
“Of, definitely a dollop for her, but I already have you as my server. I’m not sure I can handle more joy than that.”
Amanda giggled and batted her lashes at him for a moment before turning away to put our order in. Liam called out after her.
“Oh, Angel, can we get an Adam and Eve combo, as well?”
Our waitress turned around and smiled, assuring him that she would bring his order as quickly as heaven would allow. I rolled my eyes, chose to ignore their flirting, and pulled out the folder Mrs. Rogers had handed out for our assignment.
“Do I even want to know what I’m about to get?”
Liam laughed.
