We walked up the stairs, and I stopped outside the door. “Ready?”
Kian frowned and looked up at me. “You’re smiling weird! Why are you smiling weird?”
“Hey! There’s nothing weird about my smile.”
“Just bring him already!” Rhys called out and flung the door open.
“Always so damn impatient,” I said to my baby brother.
He shrugged and wiggled his way between Kian and me. “Godfather in the building! Make way.”
I laughed and lifted my brother off the ground and put him on my other side, then led my mate into the house.
When we entered the living room, my whole family was there. “Surprise,” everyone called out.
Kian gasped, his hands flying to his mouth, and leaned into my side. I wrapped my arm around his waist.
Glancing around, Kian took in the decorations. There was a giant banner that read “Baby Shower.”
Streamers of blue, yellow, and green were strewn across the ceiling and hanging down the walls. Small stuffed animals matching the colored streamers were the centerpieces on one of the couches.
The coffee table was covered with stacks of brightly wrapped packages. To the side, there was a double stroller and matching car seats, complete with a giant blue ribbon on top.
“I didn’t think…” He sniffed. “We don’t really need a shower.”
“Of course you do, son.” My papa came and stood beside us. “We want to celebrate our grandbabies and you, Kian. And what better way to tell you how much we love you than with gifts and lots of food?”
Kian grinned. “You had me at food.”
Everyone laughed, but Grandma came and took Kian, and they headed for the kitchen, thick as thieves. My papa followed them, and my dad approached me.
“You ready, son?” he asked, slinging his arms around my shoulder.
“Yeah, the cribs came last week. They’re exactly what I wanted. So the nursery is ready. Kian’s baby bag is packed, and we’re ready to go.”
Hunter stepped up to us. “Yeah, I love it; the baby cubs playing around a human sitting cross-legged and a family of older bears watching out for them.”
My grandpa walked up and handed me a glass. “Good job, son.”
But then he shared a look with my papa that had me asking, “What? What?” and looking between them.
Papa slapped my back. “Trust me, even when you think you are, you’re never ready.”
“And two in one go,” Grandpa chimed in. “Urs give you strength.”
I laughed. “I’m not worried. Between Grandma and Papa, I have a feeling Kian and I won’t get any baby time.”
“Don’t forget Rhys,” Hunter added.
“Or you.” I raised a brow at my brother.
He shrugged but didn’t deny it.
The door opened, and Graham walked in with a cake box in his hand. “Am I late? Did I miss it?” my brother asked.
“Nope, right on time,” I reassured him.
“I can’t believe we managed to keep this a secret all these weeks!” I heard Rhys say. He came back with my mate, who now had a cute little bowl with popcorn and M&Ms.
