So I threw caution to the wind as I opened the front door for him. The moment he set foot in the house, my bear sighed his pleasure.
Our mate was home.
“Welcome to my home,” I said.
Kian smiled up at me. “Thanks, it looks really pretty. I always liked this style of house.”
“I’m glad.” And that was an understatement. “Please come in,” I encouraged, and he walked in further. “I’ll just show you around.”
Kian beamed up at me. I let my bear guide me and skipped most of the rooms, instead leading him to the double doors beneath the stairs. I threw the doors open. “This is the study or library, I guess.”
He raised a brow. “It’s empty.” He walked into the room and spun around until he faced me again, looking adorably confused.
“Well, it was supposed to be.” I shrugged. “But I kind of always thought it would make a good playroom for kids or something.”
Kian walked around the room and nodded. “I can totally see that. Some low shelves by this wall”—he gestured to the left one—“and a cute chair and table set in this corner. They can color, oh, oh, and a toy area…” His excitement was infectious, but then he flushed, nibbling on his lips and kicking his feet. “Sorry, look at me getting a little carried away.”
“No. No. It’s exactly…better, even, than I could have come up with,” I reassured him. It was perfect.
Kian walked out of the room. “Don’t mind me. I just got excited.”
Neither I nor my bear thought so. I wanted to go out and get it done.
“Think nothing of it,” I told him as we walked into the family room, which was attached to the kitchen too. That had a kitchen breakfast nook, which my mate hurried over to.
“Okay, this is crazy, but I always thought it would be cool to have one of these, you know. Breakfast and dinner with the family, catching up with kids after school, maybe they do homework while I make dinner.” Everything Kian said, I wanted to happen. When he turned and spied the stone fireplace, he squealed and ran over to it. “I love this. Curled under a blanket and watching a movie with…” Kian’s eyes widened, and he slipped his hands into his pockets. “You have a really nice house.”
Even though I wanted to show him more of it, I figured now was not the time. “I was thinking, maybe I could make something”—I took a step towards him—“or we could order if you want.”
“I wouldn’t want to put you out,” Kian said.
“You’re not,” I told him. My bear wanted to provide for his mate in this most basic way. “Make yourself comfortable. I’ll see what I’ve got.”
I walked over to the kitchen and opened the fridge. I heard the chair being pulled out at the island, so I turned to find my mate with his chin resting on his hands and his eyes on me.
I smiled at him, and he blushed but smiled back at me. And neither of us seemed to want to look away. The silence stretched, and I saw his eyes flare with a need that I knew he couldn’t miss in mine.
My bear… Actually, I couldn’t lay all the blame on him. I wanted to put Kian over my shoulders and carry him up to my room…but instead, I drew in a deep breath and cleared my throat. “Anything you’re allergic to?” I asked. My voice was husky even to my ears.
Kian swallowed and licked his lips, and I watched every move. “No,” he whispered.
I nodded and forced myself to look away. “Pasta,” I said. “It’s easy to make…won’t take long. Do you want to put on the TV? I have all the subscriptions. I’m sure we can find something to watch while I cook. Or maybe you prefer music.”
I heard him move, and then the door to the fridge was pushed closed, and there he was, standing in front of me.
“Kian, please.” I closed my eyes. Gods, did he know what he did to me? I wasn’t even sure what I was asking him.
He took another step towards me, closing the gap between us even more. “I would really like it if you kissed me again.”
I groaned. “Gods.” I was only a man. My hands went around his waist, and I pulled him to me. Fuck, I wanted another taste of him.
We fit together perfectly. Like the final piece of a puzzle that had been missing under the couch and was now finally added to complete the picture.
Kian sighed into my mouth, and his arms went around my neck. I lifted him off the ground easily, needing him closer. I licked at Kian’s lips, and he opened his mouth and let me in. Our tongues tangled together, becoming one. My bear was extremely pleased as well. Neither of us wanted Kian out of our arms. It was everything I’d dreamed it would be. And the way Kian responded to me, his body ready and willing…
The Gods were smiling down on me. This moment was perfect.
Of course, the annoying voice in my head pointed out it couldn’t truly be perfect until he knew everything and accepted me anyway.
