CHAPTER 10
Gunner had felt Gordy’s sadness and allowed him some space when he had stepped inside. When he had been gone for almost twenty minutes, Jamil had suggested they go and check on their sentience. Gunner had agreed and made his way inside. He had heard Gordy talking to someone and wanted to go in there and snatch the phone from his hand. It wasn’t safe for Gordy to use his phone. He had warned their sentience of the dangers of his father tracking him through it, but it sounded as if his mate was talking to Bren and from the sounds of it, he was checking on his dog.
“Do you feel the sadness? It’s as if his heart is breaking. I don’t like it, Gunner.” Jamil said quietly.
Nodding, Gunner replied, “I think he misses his pet.”
“That would make sense. From what I’ve heard from Bren and the others, Gordy is rarely ever without his dog. They were speculating about him bringing the tiny puppy into his diner or not. They weren’t sure because of health inspectors and stuff.” Jamil explained.
Gunner smirked, “We don’t have health inspectors in Drago. I think if he has a place for his dog to lie down and not be around the food, I don’t think people will care.”
“Azul says it’s what humans do when they’re sad, why not a dog?” Bren said with a short laugh.
“Do what?” Gordy asked.
“Turn to food when they are depressed. Why didn’t you tell me that Gummy Bear suffered from separation anxiety so badly. I would have tried to help him and you.” Bren stated firmly.
Sighing, Gordy said, “He wasn’t like this before we had to flee the house when my father killed Maxine and then tried to kill me. I know Gummy was as traumatized from everything as I was. When we got to Drago and I would leave to just take out the trash he would bark and howl and if I had to leave to go get groceries, I would come home and he had torn off the curtains and tried to eat my couch. It’s why I started bringing Gummy everywhere I went.”
“Yeah? Well, you have some throw pillows you’re going to have to replace. The first night when we finished a meeting with Wiz and some of the others, we went to go and get him and there was cotton all over the place. I got it cleaned up as best I could, but the pillows themselves are a complete loss.” Bren said.
“Damn.” Gordy said with a long release of his breath.
Oh wow the poor pup was seriously missing his man. An idea came to Gunner and he said, “You stay here, I’ll be right back.”
Walking back outside, Gunner grabbed his cell and pressed one on speed dial.
“Gunner is there a problem?” Pit asked.
“Not the kind you’re thinking. I have a question. Are you and the others still coming to Texas tonight?” Gunner asked.
“Yes. We should be leaving here in about an hour. It should take us about four hours. Less if our sentiences handle things alright.” Pit said.
“Just bring heavy blankets and make sure they dress warm. They should be fine.” Gunner said then laughed, “I don’t think you’re going to have an issue with Jude ever since that time he thought it would be sexy to go flying with Casper with nothing but a G-string.”
Pit laughed, “Yeah, he already said he was putting on his ski outfit for the trip because there was no way he was going to chance his balls sucking up into his gut again like the last time.”
Gunner laughed, then Pit asked. “So what is it you need?”
Gunner told him why he called and it didn’t take long for things to be planned out and they hung up.
Going outside, he found Gio and Cobra in the pool and things were getting heavy. He hated to interrupt, but his little mate needed a pick me up, and he needed their help to make that happen.
“Hey, guys, can you come up for air? I have a favor to ask.” Gunner said.
“Fuck off, Gunner. You have a mate, why aren’t you in there reminding him of that?” Cobra said going back in to check Gio’s tonsils with his tongue.
Hating to have to beg, Gunner did just that. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his man. “Please. It’s for Gordy. He’s really sad and I want to cheer him up. To do that I need your help.”
Gio pulled back, “What do you need?”
Cobra let out a deep breath muttering something that suspiciously sounded like cutting the cock block’s dick off when Gio slapped Cobra’s chest, “Stop that or it’s going to be a shit long time before you get to even see me naked let along tap the ass.”
Cobra gave Gunner the stink eye, asking, “What do you need?”
“I need you to go to the store.” Gunner said, then proceeded to tell them what he needed.
Once that was taken care of, Gunner jumped back into the pool so Gordy wouldn’t know he had been listening to his conversation with Bren. When he saw the man tomorrow he would have to remind him about safety, just as he would do with his mate when he broached the subject of what he was doing while inside the house. For now he would let it go.
