“Don’t be upset with me Gummy. I can’t help it that I had to go. My father tried to kill me again and almost hurt a lot of people in the process. If I could have come home to get you I would have.” Gordy quickly said, as if he was talking to any other person. He knew Gio and the others laughed when he did this, but Gordy couldn’t give a shit. His Yorkie was smart as a whip and no matter what others thought, Gordy knew Gummy Bear understood what he was saying. “I know you’re upset with me, Gummy Bear, but you can’t tell me you’re not enjoying the attention all those men and dragons are giving you. Wasn’t that Vienna Sausages I saw Azul feeding you just now? You know I don’t allow you to have that stuff because of the salt, but you’re getting that treat and I shudder to think what else while we’re apart.”
Azul gave a huff, a tiny plume of smoke coming out of his nostrils. Gordy continued talking to his baby, “I would think that with Bren being a veterinarian he wouldn’t allow Azul to spoil you like this, but I have a feeling Azul would have snuck them to you anyway. You and those adorably cute eyes have a way of making others do what they know they shouldn’t.”
“Azul says it’s what humans do when they’re sad, so why not a dog?” Bren said with a short laugh.
“Do what?” Gordy asked.
“Turn to food when they are depressed. Why didn’t you tell me that Gummy Bear suffered from separation anxiety so badly. I would have tried to help him and you.” Bren stated firmly.
Sighing, Gordy said, “He wasn’t like this before we had to flee the house when my father killed Maxine and then tried to kill me. I know Gummy was as traumatized from everything as I was. When we got to Drago and I would leave to just take out the trash he would bark and howl, and if I had to leave to go get groceries, I would come home and he had torn off the curtains and tried to eat my couch. It’s why I started bringing Gummy everywhere I went.”
“Yeah? Well, you have some throw pillows you’re going to have to replace. The first night when we finished a meeting with Wiz and some of the others, we went to go and get him and there was cotton all over the place. I got it cleaned up as best I could, but the pillows themselves are a complete loss.” Bren said.
“Damn.” Gordy said, with a long release of his breath.
Bren then said, “My biggest worry came this morning when we woke up and went to let Gummy out, but couldn’t find him anywhere. He wasn’t on the doggie bed we brought with us and we searched and searched. Azul and Taco finally found him under the couch. He was shaking and looked so damn pitiful. No matter what any of us said or did, he wouldn’t come out. Wiz’s maharishi finally went under there and cuddled up with Gummy Bear until the poor thing stopped shaking, and Spirit went and got some hot dogs to lure him out from under there. Azul and Wiz’s dragons have been with him ever since and the other maharishi have been coming in and out talking to him, or just sitting with him as have myself and everyone else in the house.”
Gordy’s heart broke hearing how distressed his precious baby was and him being unable to do anything about it. Bren then said, “And, yes, I know it isn’t good to feed dogs human food, but I didn’t have the heart to tell the maharishi not to, because it was as if they were making themselves a part of Gummy’s pack.”
“Gummy Bear doesn’t have a pack.” Gordy said with a snort.
“He does now.” Bren said, then asked, “So now you know your precious baby is safe and being cared for, tell me, how are you really doing? I mean, besides being bonded with our Gunner, how are you holding up?”
“I’m doing alright. Worried. Bored. Wishing I was home putting my diner together.” Gordy said, then sat down on the foot of his bed, saying, “I just want things to go back to normal, you know what I mean? I want my father to go away and leave me alone, and I want to get to really know Gunner and Jamil. I want to hold my Gummy Bear and introduce him to my mates so we can all be a family.”
“You are a family no matter the circumstance, Gordy. Gunner and Jamil would do anything for you if you asked. But I know you. You hold things back… you distance yourself from people.” Bren said.
When Gordy opened his mouth to speak, Bren quickly said, “You do and you know it. Hell, Gio and you are best friends, but even he had no idea what dangers you were in, and even though we love you, all of us know you don’t talk about yourself. You don’t let us in. I just want you to know that you really can trust us. You can tell us anything and we would never betray your trust. What we say and do around each other as mates to those big lugs is between us. It isn’t easy being mated to a man that goes out into the world taking on serialists or dealing with the high testosterone, Tarzan attitude so many of them have. It’s as if they think we can’t handle ourselves, forgetting we did just that for many years when they weren’t around.”
Gordy wiped at a lone tear, hearing what Bren was saying. He didn’t just have Gunner and Jamil as family, but he had all of them. Thinking about it was almost overwhelming. “Thanks, Bren. I… I never really had anyone but Maxine and Gummy Bear, and I know I’ve been kind of standoffish, but I promise to try and do better. I’m just not used to all this, you know? I’ve always dreamed about having a family of my own one day. I wanted a bunch of kids to chase after and play games with. I figured that was out of the question since I’m gay and all. It’s why I got Gummy Bear to begin with.”
“Oh wow that’s why a Yorkie shifter has a Yorkie for a pet. I get it now.” Bren said with a wide smile. “That is so sweet. But Gordy you do know that gay or not you can have kids if you want to? Talk to Gunner and Jamil, you might be surprised by what you learn.”
Gordy was confused and decided to just say, “Yeah, maybe I will when things settle down. I think that it’s going to take me a little bit to get used to the fact that people are around me that really care about me and don’t want to hurt me.”
Nodding, Bren replied, “Yes, I do know and it’s hard when someone you cared about and thought would never betray you does just that. It makes you wary of others.”
Gordy remembered Gio telling him about how there had been a serial killer copycat to the ABC killer and how it turned out to be one of Bren, Jude, and Rylee’s closest friends, and she had tried to kill Bren. It couldn’t have been easy to discover that someone you thought you knew could be so evil and you had no clue. Maybe Gordy really could trust these guys with everything in him. They not only could understand how he felt, but they could honestly say they walked in Gordy’s shoes. “I’ll do better.”
“Good. Now don’t worry about the diner, Rylee was there when the new equipment was put in and Jude, me and our maharishi, along with our mates, already put your food delivery away as well as the new tables and chairs. We didn’t hang your pictures, because we figured you would want to do that. Pit said we should all be out there by tomorrow so we will see you then.”
“Okay, Bren. I’ll see you then.” Gordy said, then in his best baby talk, Gordy said to Gummy. “You be a good boy and Daddy will bring you home a big treat. I’ll even take you to Margret for a nice makeover. I bet your nails are in dire need of a mani/pedi. We can do it together. Okay?”
Gummy Bear barked and Gordy could have sworn his baby boy smiled. With that image Gordy said bye and hung up.
Tears fell from Gordy’s eyes. He really missed his baby and wished he could cuddle him up. He didn’t know how long he was going to have to be here and just thinking about all the time away from his Yorkie tore at his heart. What if Gummy Bear became heartsick? Gordy had heard about people who died from that. Could that happen to his Gummy? As much as he loved being with Gunner and Jamil, right now all he wanted was to go home and snuggle with his soft fur baby.
The door opened and Gunner walked inside dripping with water. “Hey, baby, what are you doing in here? Is everything alright?”
All Gordy could do was nod as he watched paths of water slowly slide down his mate’s sexy-as-fuck body. Damn, the man was absolutely lickable. Gordy wanted to take his tongue and drink the water from his mate’s skin slowly.Well he is my mate. He shouldn’t mind if I do just that.
“Uh, baby, are you sure you’re alright? You’re looking at me kind of funny.” Gunner said with a knowing smirk.
“I’m thirsty.” Gordy said slowly, making his way to Gunner’s slick body and wrapping his lips around Gunner’s left nipple, slurping and licking slowly to his right one, then he lowered himself down, removing Gunner’s swim trunks and engulfing his mate’s huge wet cock into his mouth.
Gunner moaned. “Fuck! Drink away baby. Drink away!”
