Luciana smiles smugly at her brothers.
CHAPTER EIGHT
Moira
It’s sad that Zachary had to be committed for a few days, even in high school he never acted like there was anything wrong. But if he really does need help, I hope he gets it. He’s never scared me before. But now? Now he does and I don’t like it. We know that he got out last week and the Lake Renegade council has gotten an update on him. They’ve told us to keep our eyes open and always be aware when we’re out.
Magic Nights Chicago does shows at the club every Friday and Saturday night. They do private shows Sunday through Thursday. They’ve had this schedule from the very beginning. I’m still on the fence about watching my Callum dance. He’s so fucking sexy. But I dislike the women putting their hands on him. I used to tease Luciana and Isabella all the time. I suppose this is my karma for that. Boooo.
We head to the club about three hours before the doors open. The guys set up the stage area and we all help clean the floors and bathrooms while the bartenders set up the bar. The guysalso run through their routines. There’s usually ten of them that perform each night. They do three sets and two shows. It’s a long night.
Every night, Callum brings me up for one song. I never know what song he’ll choose. But I love being up there with him. The smile he has on his face is the best thing I’ve ever seen. We’ve talked through some of my insecurities. And I do trust him, so I’m doing my best to get past them.
Tonight feels off, not because of the women, in fact they’re being really respectful. It feels like there’s something I’m missing, and I don’t like it.
“Is it me or does it feel weird in here tonight?” Clara asks as we’re watching the show.
“I thought it was just me. You feel it too?” I whisper.
“Definitely. It feels like something’s gonna happen. And I don’t like it.” She frowns.
“What the fuck is going on tonight? It’s weird in here,” Luciana says to us as she frowns too.
I chuckle. “We were just saying that.”
“I’m gonna go talk to Celestino. He needs to know we’re all feeling like something’s up.”
I nod as Luciana and Amante go over to Celestino. There’s only two more routines for tonight, one is Aodhán O’Callaghan and then Celestino, who always closes out the show. I can see the bartenders setting up for the afterparty. The VIP ticket holders are in one area, they get to talk and hang out with the dancers. Then there’s the general admission ticket holder’s area. The guys go to the general admission every so often. They want them to know that they matter too. They don’t spend as much time as they do in the VIP section, but I think it’s still a nice thing to do.
When the show is finally over, we grab our drinks and mingle.
“Maybe we were just imagining it?” I ask Luciana.
“No, it still feels weird,” she says as she scans the room.
I nod because I feel it too.
“Why does it feel weird in here? I don’t smell anything off. So what the fuck?” Artemis Nikolaidis-Athanasiou says softly to me.
“I don’t know. We’ve been trying to figure it out all night. It’s really unsettling.”
“Adonis said something’s been off for him too. Ugh. I don’t like it.”
Everywhere I go, I have Noah with me. After Zachary got past him at school, he’s been a lot more adamant about me staying where he can see me.
“I need to use the restroom,” I say to Noah.
He grabs some of my girls and we all head to the restroom. Noah, Amante and Ombra are waiting outside. I’m still not fully comfortable with knowing Noah is right outside when I have to pee…
We step back outside and try to mingle again. All of a sudden we hear someone scream.
“Shut up, Moira!” someone yells.
I look around and suddenly Callum, Noah, Adonis and Francesco are in front of me.
“Are you okay?” Callum asks me as he wraps his arms around me tightly.
“I’m okay. Who’s screaming?” I ask as I try to peek through my wall of muscle in front of me.
