“You are a goddess. I could just hug you,” I mumbled, voice thick from sleep, while reaching for the coffee on the desk next to my bed.

Remy shook her head and said, “Goddess yes, hugger, no.” She took a sip of her coffee, then scribbled something on her tablet without looking my way. Perhaps one day I’d get the gift of receiving a Remy hug one day. We’d have to work up to that.

After adjusting the pillows, I sat up. The blankets kept my bare legs warm as I inhaled those sweet scents of java and chocolate. “Oh, this smells divine.”

It tasted divine too.

Remy finished her coffee and looked my way. “What’s your schedule like?”

“Conjuring first, potions second, divination third, and transmutation fourth.” There were only four main classes for now. As the school progressed, they’d likely add more.

It would be interesting to learn the history of magic and how Nathurian’s coexisted with it. But the professors decided it would be best to start slow this year. Teach everyone how to survive with their powers.

“I’ve got potions as my second too.” Remy stood to stretch and quickly made the bed.

While waiting for the caffeine to kick in, I scrolled through the map on the school app. A notification popped up announcing that clubs and school calendars would be handed out this week.

“I wish we were able to learn more about Nathuria,” I mused aloud. “The Nathurian staff only offered to help us stabilize, so we should be happy with that, but still. It’d be nice to know a bit more about them.”

I hoped whatever clubs thatwouldbe available would give us more room to explore our minds and powers.

Remy nodded and dug through her dresser. “Both sides of the realms are nervous of each other. They’re keeping it hush-hush wherever they can. Eventually we’ll get to see more of Nathuria. I’m sure of it.” She faced the wall and whipped her sleepshirt over her head.

Alrighty then.

She dressed in a pair of leggings, blue tank top, and a set of black combat boots. In front of me. Without a care in the world. Even when I was younger and fitter, I still wouldn’t have undressed in front of someone I’d just met.

Remy noticed the blush on my cheeks when she turned around. “Body is a body, right?”

I nodded despite the pink face. “I’ve got no issues with bodies.” We were adults, and I supported women’s right to be naked in front of others if they so choose. Didn’t make it any less awkward, though. Perhaps I’d get used to her undressing in front of me and she’d get used to hugs. This was a growing opportunity after all.

Remy shoved her phone into her leggings pocket and looked around once, as if to survey the room for anything missed, before facing me. “I’m heading down early. I’ll see you in potions.”

She left before I could wish her good luck, but hopefully my expression said it for me.

Remy seemed nice so far. A little direct, but I’d rather have straight and to the point conversations than beat around the bush types.

“Time to get up, Tempie.”

With momentum on my side, I rolled off the bed and strolled into the bathroom to get ready for a great first day of Magic School.

I searched for a comfy first day outfit in my bag and stood there puzzled.

The clothes in my duffle weren’t mine.

My signature jean shorts and plain shirts? Nowhere to be seen.

So, that’s odd.

Did that magical luggage runner accidentally mix up my clothes with someone else’s?

Last night, I was so tired I didn’t dig through the bag as I grabbed my sleepshirt and toiletries. They were sitting on the top of all my other clothes. Or so I’d thought.

Where were my comfy mom clothes?

I dug through richly colored materials and shirts that I would have never bought, as hysteria rose in my chest. This was not happening.

“What the hell?” I hissed as I emptied the contents onto my bed to sort through the mess. Sweaters, tight fitting shirts, sheer long sleeve tops, skirts, and dresses.
