I placed my phone face down on the table and cleared my throat. “What were we talking about?”
“You can’t get off that easy,” Zayn said. “Spill. What did she send you?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I said.
Louisa snickered. “I talk to Ezzie all the time,” she said. “She says you’re at their office at least three times a week.”
“Isn’t that girl engaged?” Stella asked.
But Avril was looking at me with a proud smile on her lips. I pleaded to her with my eyes, and she tapped the whiteboard twice.
“Back to it,” she said. “We have a deadline for this. You can harass the god of love on your own time. Right now, you’re mine.”
“Ooh, that’s spicy, Av,” Zayn joked. “Are you going to punish us?”
“I very well might,” she replied. “The next suggestion—“ She paused, a look of surprise on her face. “Now, that is a cock drawing,” she said as she shifted around the paper for us to see.
“Oh shit, let me see that,” Zayn said as he stood and took it from her hands. “Damn,” he drawled. “Veins and balls and everything.” He turned it around, and I snorted, prompting everyone to stare at me.
Gods damn, this woman.
CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE - CHLOE
I WAS A glutton for punishment.
I was texting Gavin every day.
Morning. Noon. Night.
I had yet to hear from Tyler, which was odd. I knew it could have been the time difference since he was in Tokyo, or at least that was what I was blaming it on.
It definitelywasn’tbecause I was so obsessed with Gavin.
No.
No, that couldn’t have been it.
“Five things on your bucket list,” Gavin said as he sat beside me at the office table on Thursday.
He had brought burgers and fries for my entire team to munch on while we showed him progress on the designs for his company. I estimated another week to put the final touches on them before we would be done. My team happily took the afternoon off with Gavin’s approval on everything.
I chewed slowly on one fry, considering his question but also trying to extend as much time with him as possible.
“Skydive,” I answered, counting the list off on my fingers. “Travel. Go on a sailboat—“
“You have to be more specific with travel,” he said. “Where do you want to go? Besides Greece?”
“Rome. Or rather Italy, in general,” I answered.
A soft smile lifted his lips. “You really like Greek and Roman things."
“I love it—okay, there’s one of my travel items. To see all the relics and architecture relating to the Greco-Roman world.”
His chewing slowed as he stared at me, and I chuckled under my breath, remembering who he was.
“That probably seems silly to you,” I said.
“No, not at all.” He grabbed another fry and popped it into his mouth. “I could use a refresher. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the old world.”
